Hey Everybody,

I'm new here and just starting out the whole college deal, aside from earning solid grades, so I'm looking for advice and chances at a few colleges.

I go to one of the most competitive prep schools in Massachusetts, so my grades might at first come off as lower than what one would hope for to get into these schools, but bear in mind the difficulty of my current school. We do not calculate GPA nor class rank..probably because it would result in more unhealthy competition between students than we already have.. so I wont be able to provide those numbers.

Grades:
English B+
History B- (hardest teacher in the school..too bad colleges don't know that)
Bio A-
Pre-Calc A
French B+
Jazz A (at our school arts courses are taken for full or half credit, not as an EC

I calculated my GPA online and it's a 3.5, but once again GPA's pretty pointless because of the difficulty of my school.

Sats:

Writing 740

Math 670
Reading 690

Background:
White
Male
From Mass.

ECs:
I firmly believe in quality over quantity with my EC's so here they are..

My biggest is drumming. I've been playing for 9 years, 4 of which have been dedicated to studying jazz (I still practice all genres, though, so to be a plenty diverse player) I'm the top drummer in my school and am always called upon to play for people.. probably play 3 or 4 gigs a month, which can get tricky to manage with studying.

Skiing: By next year I will be captain have skied all four years for my school, being on varsity since sophomore year. Skiing is my biggest passion. Ask anyone of my friends to describe me and they'll say "well..he works amazingly hard at school, and shreds the gnar (skis)"

I planned to run cross-country all four years, but mid-season sohpomore year I got a back injury that put the end to my running.

Outdoor Program Board Head- Have been on the board since sophomore year, and will be the head next year. Our school's program is quite impressive, and I lead mostly winter trips ranging from backcountry skiing to ice climbing to winter hiking.

Essay should be good, as I'm both creative and a solid writer (my school's strength is our English department)
Recs- I wish my grades were as high as the comments we recieve from our teachers. Well-liked by all my teachers and have strong relationships with a couple so my recs should be good.
Interviews-I'm a good, natural "people person" so I plan on interviewing so that colleges get a better sense than what a piece of paper can say of who I am.

Major-undecided.. Biology, engineering, some sort of political science?

FA is tricky for my situation, but I don't plan on applying for any.

Schools:
Bowdoin
Bates
Colby
Middlebury
Dartmouth
UVM
Georgetown (odd one out)
Any advice for some safety schools?
