Prep School

Ok, I have many questions about the prep school.

-How similar is it to the Academy?
-Is there a “BCT” in the summer? If so how long?
-When does one find out if they are accepted to the prep school?
-Are there clubs and activities to get involved in?
-Do you get more time off than cadets at the academy (in regards to weekends and holidays)?
-What percentage prep schoolers get accepted the second time applying to USAFA?

Thank you for everything, I will be posting this on the other site as well.

I went to the prep school last year, and there is somoene on the forums this year at the prep school (Bluesuiter).

Here it goes:
It is a structured life just like the academy. Time to wake up, periods for school during the day, mandatory breakfast, lunch, dinner, etc.

There is a summer BMT that is approximately 3 weeks in length.

I found out i got into the prep school around January before i entered that July but it various for each person.

There aren't any clubs but there are sports teams you could try to walk on: soccer, paintball (new as of last year), football? Real clubs and things dont come into play until you reach the academy

YOu get way more free time as a cadet candidate (preppie) than as a cadet except when it comes to holidays. Less thanksgiving and christmas time off.

You don't reapply to the academy, pretty much if you want to go you get in unless you get into alot of trouble, (military trouble basically like lieing alot of times, just mainly getting in trouble alot). Last year about 16-20 preppies didnt get accepted for grades.

If you get a prep school slot i highly enourage it. It is the greatest year of the total 5 years!!! and you get paid about 800 a month with free weekends pretty much every weekend, there are some exceptions. You get a great advantage of getting into the academy with a variety of friends and will be one of the leaders during BCT when you make it.

Any questions feel free to ask them here or PM me anytime.

You haven't even finished half of year 2 here and you've already declared the prep year the best? My friend, you must wait a couple years and that will change.

Well actually thinking about it, the academy (post recognition) is probably better as you have more opportunities to get involved with things (jump/soaring/other stuff/etc..)

I can say that I miss the real air force everyday but being a preppie has its advantages. The paintball team is actually being organized into an official IC (intercollegiate) sport this year so that should be around if you get here.

My question to you is why are you aiming for the Prep? Yes it is nice to be paid like a real person and it does prepare you for the academy but what makes you think you won't be a direct entry?

Further point of interest: I know of a couple guys here that didn't get notified of being selected for the P until only a couple days out, and a few that were notified months in advance. This is a great opportunity if you get the chance to come, but aim high.

Well, my gpa is kinda low, 3.4 D: I'm not aiming low, I am aiming high but you never know what will happen so I want to be prepared

Hmm... make sure you have everything else up to snuff and call your counselor every single day asking for an update. They may get so tired of hearing from you that they give you a P school slot - I know of one firstie up at the hill that told us that is how they got in.

hahaha, I would but I don't get home till after they close but I will def start calling once a week
