Hi everyone! I apologize in advance for me posting a lot , but I have a few questions regarding sports and prep schools. I do both track and x-country, but to be honest I am not very good at them (I love running, but Iām not good at it). If there is cuts on those teams at schools such as GLADCHEMMS schools (just using as an example, not saying I will get in/go to those schools) Iām pretty sure I wonāt make the team. Iāve also heard that you have to do a sport each trimester/semester/quarter at some schoolsā¦ is this true? If so, do the schools that have this rule in place have no cut teams each trimester/semester/quarter for the less athletic kids? I also have another question. I want to list on my application that I do track/x-country, but Iām not sure AO will really care since Iām not the best at it. Should I still list these things or do you think that it is unnecessary? Thanks!
The smaller the school, the less likely there will be cuts.
Every school (AFAIK) offers at least one sport a season that is no-cut. Track and XC are generally no-cut sports.
By all means, list it as a sport you do or are interested in doing. At many schools, sports like track and cross country are no cut sports. At many prep schools , if there are cuts for popular sports, there may be a varsity, jv, third, and developmental team. The goal is to keep you healthy and busy and create a way to bond with other students, so there is a place for everyone. DSā school required all new students to play a fall sport (x country was no cut), and all freshmen and sophomores to play 2 sports per year. In a term with no sport, PE was required. While every school has its own requirements (which you can probably find on their website ), this type of arrangement is pretty typical.
SPS has no cute on track and XC (varsity and JV). They also have club sports (intramural) for those not playing interscholastic sports as well as fitness type classes.
DSā school also has no cut for track and XC, though you may not get to participate in some of the meets. I am also assuming that you are in 7th grade right now. I havenāt looked back to see your gender, but particularly for boys, it is hard to predict how you will run in 9th grade as you continue to grow and get stronger. DS really improved a lot between 7th and 8th and again in 9th - you may find yourself surprised if you stick with it and train!
At DSā school, all entering students take a fall sport. After that, a āsportā is required but āsportā includes robotics, PE, and theater.
List your sports. I think AOs are interested in what you choose to do with your time.
