Having just completed DD1's paperwork for summer abroad (Paris and Rome), we'll need some kind of Prepaid SIM card for her while she's there. We have AT&T Wireless GSM phones but the rates are a bit high so...

Has anyone had luck using the callback schemes used by OneSIMCard or Telestial etc etc etc? Some have good reviews but a lot don't. Not too worried about data, she'll probably take an old quad band GSM phone we have.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello, I do not remember, but I think the AT&T phones work well in Europe. In France, you have Bouygues Telecom, Orange, and SFR for prepaid card. After for Italy, I do not have any idea.

If you have any question, do not hesitate to ask me I am French.

For about 20 euros ($25 or so) you can get a used cell phone that works with a pre-paid phone card. You can buy credit for the phones for 5 euros, 10 euros, whatever you want. I did that in Spain and in Italy. Incoming calls are free.

I was hoping for a solution we can try in the US i.e. buy one of those dual number SIM cards… Any experience with those?
