preparation for chem?

for general chemisty I, do you need a good chemistry background to do well in the class, because the last time a took chemistry was when i was a soph in hs...i'm about to be a freshman and was wondering if gen chem I is only for people who have all the basic stuff down in their mind right when they start gen chem or does gen chem not give the student a chance to brush up and review the basic chem stuff to do well in the class...should i just take intro chemistry and be behind for one semester and take catch up with my chemistry in the summer or am i jus over-stressing? basically im jus asking if a student like myself that's a little rusty in chemistry should start his first sem with gen chem I...

Gen Chem I is certainly much harder than HS chem, but there's no reason you won't do well if you put in the time and effort. I don't think there's any reason you should take a lower level chem that would put you behind a semester.

i was in the same boat as you last year and i did very well in gen chem. you just have to put effort in to do the practice problems and take notes in class.

I don't think universities offer a chem class lower than gen chem (assuming chem 101 is what you're refering to, yes?).

well they have intro chemistry, which is different. The thing is that i failed the chemistry placement exam so they are advising me to take intro chemistry instead of gen chem; however, i believe that i failed the test due to lack of studying and the fact that i didnt take the class since i my soph yr

i actually thought genchem was more of a pain than organic chem. go for genchem though...you'll do fine if you're on top of all the basic calculations and concepts.

Our school does not let us take Generally chemistry unless the student took 2 years of chemistry in high school thats usually chemistry one and AP chemistry. If a student only had one year of chemistry in high school then the have to start with introduction to chemistry.
