I know I won't get much in terms of perspective on the American way of life (I live like 5 hours from Cornell...) but would it be worth it to go to PREPARE to meet new people before orientation?

No. Do POST or WR.

if you have an interest in europeans/asians then yes :)

btw...why are you canucks so darn beautiful? :<

can americans go to prepare? i'm just interested in meeting people of diverse backgrounds

hey im canadian too!
i dont think PREPARE will do much for us.....
but i still put my name down. its fun to meet people from all over :) plus, you can also get your bank accounts/cell phone plans settled so that you have more fun when the actual orientation starts.

to isolabella- yes, americans can sign up for it.

Again, PREPARE may not be the best program for North Americans or Western Europeans who are already largely acclimated to American attitudes and lifestyles. A large part of the experience involves small group sessions and workshops on topics such as academic success, practical living, health and safety presentations. There will also be social sessions featuring trips to the mall, bowling, etc.

For any sufficiently Westernized student, POST or WR will be a much more rewarding experience due to the group bonds that will be formed by a collective activity. I led many international students on my WR trips, and I think all were extremely happy with the WR program.

oh snap. i wish i asked this question myself before putting that $185 on the bill! :(

That's alright. It will still be a good experience. Showing up before orientation to meet other students can never be a bad thing.

you will get a feel for the campus before everyone else...that alone is worth it...although i imagine you'll have a longer orientation than most :D

so for prepare, do we get to move in to our dorms earlier?

i found out, yes you do!

im canadian and i signed up for the prepare program as well.. hopefully it's going to be worth the money hehehe =D

Must be hard for a Canadian to adjust to life in the states.

canucks are beautiful <3 'em

my PREPARE friends are very different from my other friends. it's like they don't interact sometimes. the prepare people are, yes, for a large part asian, but in fact i have two good asian friends that actually have lived in canada for a long time and who did prepare. that's how they formed their closest friends. (i didn't do it, i'm saying other friends of theirs). i have another good friend, a guy, from hong kong who is close with them too, but like he's half american. it's an interesting sociological demographic, prepare i mean. i'd say that it's cool. and you meet people before you come to school effectively.

so yea i think that if you're good at making friends in all different places, it wouldn't be too like "exclusive" but even if it is, you'll come out with a really really good group of friends.

I'm not foreign, but I'd say do it. You'll have the chance to see Cornell when it is nice, beautiful, sunny, and gorges. You'll be kicking yourself if you miss this and see ****ty gray weather for 8 months of the year, thinking you could've frolicked around in the summertime for a week without a care in the world.

Can we please get rid of the notion that Cornell has ****ty gray weather for 8 months? December, February and half of March is bad. That is it. January is usually fine because it is snowy and sunny. By mid April kids are swimming in the gorges again.

Cayuga you are from Buffalo (I believe)...some of us had never seen snow much less sub-40F temperatures before getting to Cornell.

It is ****ty weather...but so is Houston-Hotter-Than-A-Crotch Humidity...

so unless you're from California...just buckle up and bundle up...

california girl here, and i have to say, i am both super excited and scared about the cornell weather

I am from Mongolia, and I don't even have to worry about it since it even could be milder. LOL
