Hi, I'm a current community college student who will be entering sophomore year this quarter (I have an additional 25 semester credits from taking college classes in high school). I'm planning to major in microbiology, go on to get a PhD, and then work in biomedical research (maybe for a biotech company) and develop treatments.
My problem is that I know you need clinical experience to be admitted to a grad school, but because I'm going to a community college none of my professors are working on any research projects, and I don't feel qualified to start one of my own. In my spare time I read research papers (I have a subscription to Nature magazine.)
Another concern of mine is that I got a B in General bio(though I was in the top 5% of my class) and a C in General Physics (I feel so stupid for taking them at the same time). I didn't get those grades at a community college, but at a CSU, which I have now transferred away from because I don't like it. I realize those grades are very bad and will hurt my chances, but I got diagnosed with ADD this summer and am now receiving treatment and doing really well.
So do you have any advice on how I could improve my application/get more experience? Thanks.
