ighttt so i am gonna be a freshmen in science major, and i have to take calculus 1.

I took AP calculus AB in my sophomore year, and I am little worried (i forgot alot of it... i think). I got 4on the AP exam, but i still want to prepare or at least review again before the school starts.

would reviewing AP prep book for calculus be enough? (P review) or would buying the text book early and reviewing be more effective?

how hard is college calculus compared to that in high school?

I can’t really say much about high school calculus compared to college but what I will tell you is that it’s a lot harder when you don’t have a review or any knowledge of the material. I think you should not focus on studying the AP material because it will prepare you for a test not the actual use of calculus. If I were you I would recommend getting a book, downloading the solution manuel and learning on your own. I know this sounds dumb but after I got a B- in my first class I did this over the summer and got an A the next time around. The main reason why you should review is because in most of my classes we’ve use the concept of an integral all the time and that’s something you need to know as an engineer.

The book that we use is by James Steward 5edition. It’s cheap (I spent $8 while others spent $80 off amazon)

Calc 1 is easy. I had no calc in HS and I did fine. You probably don’t need to do any review although it wouldn’t hurt. I wouldn’t worry to much about it. Calc uses allot of alegebra and my class used a fare amount of trig. We were expected to know the algebra and most of the trig before the calc class. Other than that you can learn what you need to know as you go.

Just relax this summer and when you take the class, just relearn it there. There really isn’t any reason to try and reteach it to yourself over the summer. You already learned it once, so that means that in all likelihood, even if you forgot something, once you see it in class again, it won’t take much effort to pick it back up.

Just enjoy this last free summer you have. You may not have a summer free of work again after this.

The last high-school math course I had was Analytic Geometry. I did not take Pre-Calculus nor AP Calculus and still started my fall-term freshman semester with Calculus I. I ended up being a math major as an undergraduate.

When I took Calculus I as a freshmen hadn’t taken a math course in two years. Regardless I still ended up doing reasonably well and earned a solid B without having to put in too much time studying for just one course.

Beware of calculus 2 though it got me by surprise because it was much more challenging then calculus 1.
