Hi,
What classes should be finished before preparing and actually taking MCAT?

what is an MCAT? is that like the SAT for college?

^hahahaha. It’s for medical school.

Take Chem 153A/L for a good refresher before the chemistry in MCAT.

jinobi, when do you plan on taking it?

/curiousity

I was thinking sometime during 3rd year.

you definitely dont need 153A. im preping for the mcat right now, and the material you do in 153A is WAAY more than what you need for the mcat.

however, jinobi has a good point: it will refresh MANY aspects of gen/organic chem. however, it’s not worth the potential dip in gpa unless you really badly want to get it out of the way (which was why I took 153A early)

edit: to elaborate on other classes…

definitely take the chem series (either 14 or 20/30, it DOESN’T matter)
definitely take the physics series (again doesn’t matter if it’s life science or physical science)
definitely take the LS series (2-4, 1 isn’t required for anything except for LS majors)

bruinboy, are you taking it this summer?

so uh since you guys are talking about chem…

if i need a biochem course for grad school, is that 153A? (i know it’s a stupid question but i’ve never taken chem here, and everything is listed under “chem and biochem” so i don’t know which is which)

thanks!

153A is the intro course for biochem, that’s probably the one that you want.

^ but it isn’t required for every med school - in fact, you won’t reduce your choices much by not taking it.

it’s not med school that i need it for.
long story, just wanted to know what it was ;)

i would recommend eventually taking 153A (senior year) because the number of med schools requiring biochem increases every year, and almost every med school “recommends” taking the class.

funnyman: yea im taking it this summer… :(

if you’re a life science major 153A is usually a requirement anyways.

wow, bruinboy, you already started prepping?

I’m taking it this summer too. likewise :(
