Preparing for Orientation

My orientation is coming up, it's on Auguest 4th-5th.

I need to know what I need to do there, because SB is like 3 hours away from my house and I dont' get too many chances to talk to the officials there. Also, I don't normally wake up or am free when they answer their telephones.

So, do you guys recommend what I should bring? I've already seen the list that the orientation website recommends, but I want to see if they've missed anything. One thing they did miss was money for the bookstore!

Also, do you guys recommend I bring my laptop? Can I access the internet there even though it's just orientation?

What should I do my first/second day to help ensure that I get the classes I want?

I'm going to the August 4-5 orientation also. I took a look at GOLD and ratemyprofessors.com. I'm taking my eeepc (laptop) with me when i go. Its probably not going to be too difficult to get on the interweb; check ResNet.

checked it, the browser is redirected to ResNet where you register; though, you can only register when on campus.

Okay, so I'm assuming I can register for ResNet while I'm there using my perm number or something. Knowing I can access the internet there is pretty useful, I can check back here and ask some people what to do while I'm on campus haha.

orientation was a lot of fun..the academic advising sessions got a little boring, but overall it was a good experience..i met a lot of new people..and just wait till you see the little skit the theater people put on for you! haha its something you won't ever forget

Are you allowed to go on the internet during that time? I read some thread from last year that someone was told to turn off their cellphone because people could use their cellphones to go on the internet to register for classes, and it wouldn't be fair for other students.

It would be nice though, if I could register for classes online during orientation =P. Btw, I checked ResNet but I wasn't redirected anywhere. Maybe I went to the wrong website?
