First post! My twin daughters took a prep course and they didn't take practice tests. Now they feel unprepared and anxious. What is the best method to prepare them? Online? Books? Anyone have any experience?. Also we are in Colorado. Should they take ACT, SAT or both? We will be looking both in- state and out of state? Thank you!

They took a prep course without practice tests? That seems rather unusual. Practice tests are the best way to improve one’s scores.

I can only help you out with the SAT for I have not taken the ACT. In my opinion, the best way to study is a combination of books and online materials. The Official SAT study guide (aka the blue book) made by Collegeboard is a good place to start; you’ll find 10 practice tests, 3 of which were previously administered tests and have actual curves that will give a good idea of scoring potential.

I recommend that your daughters take a practice test from the blue book to start; this will give them an idea of where they stand. Then, if they need additional resources there are books that are helpful for each of the three sections.
