Hi, guys! Okay so I'm trying to study for the June SAT, and this will be my first SAT/ACT. I was wondering what you guys did to prepare for the SAT/ACT along with your scores and grades in school (just so that I can get an idea of what kind of student you are). I've been prepping for the test but I keep hearing so many different methods to study for the test, so let me know what you did to prepare.

What you should do is either buy the Collegeboard Blue Book or another review book with a LOT of practice tests. Doing practice tests is the key to getting a high score- the questions on the SAT are formulaic. When you take your very first practice test, think about the format of the question.

For example, the Critical Reading section questions are generally: Single word vocabulary, double word vocabulary, definitions in context, close reading comprehension, comparison of passages, and attitude of the author. If that list didn’t make sense to you right now, it will after a couple practice tests.

What a lot of people do wrong when “studying” for the SAT (doing practice tests) is to grade their answers, look at their score, and move on. You absolutely absolutely have to go back and see which question you got wrong, what type of question it was, and figure out why your answer was wrong.

I can’t reinforce this idea enough, practice tests are the key to getting a good score on the SAT. You’ll gain familiarity with the test, the types of questions, the common mistakes, the common “tricks” they throw in, frequently-used vocab words, etc…
