Preppiest colleges on east coast?

I am looking for a preppy school on the east coast. Of course my first choice is Princeton- I am not into partying at all and would prefer a school where the party-life is kept to a minimum. I am a fairly good student. I have a 4.0 UW in 3 APs. Im in my junior year, have some leadership roles, a lot of extra curricular, and volunteer. My problem is in the SATs... Any schools that you recommend?

bump .

It’s very hard for students even with perfect stats to get into ivies like Princeton.

If your SATs are an issue, then you need to consider schools where your SATs will fit.

What are your SAT scores? Have you taken the ACT?

What is your likely major?

How much can your parents pay for your education?

What is your home state?

I see on another thread that you got a PSAT- 174

I think I remember that you haven’t taken the SAT or ACT yet. Is that right?

Take a look at Bowdoin, Bates and Colby in Maine. Bates and Bowdoin are SAT optional. All three are pretty preppy, although you can find other sub-groups there as well.

Perhaps you should consider researching the colleges that you’re already investigating, because this statement makes you look foolish.

What else do you want in a school besides being preppy?

What is your likely major?

Do you want big sports to watch?

My likely major is integrated sciences- maybe biology. not sure. Id prefer a campus and a Jewish community

*Id prefer a campus and a Jewish community *

I’m guessing that you do want a campus! :)

Schools that have the highest Jewish populations. I know that not all of these are NE schools. I don’t know which are preppy.

Emory sounds like a good fit, as well as Brandeis.

i was looking for the same kind of college (but with good sports!). i found [collegeclicktv.com to be really helpful because i could see what the current students were actually like. i was thinking about michigan, but then i didnt think it seemed so preppy (lots of party videos - video](http://www.collegeclicktv.com)) but colgate looked more my speed ((http://www.collegeclicktv.com/videos?fr_story=e0f75d73e73dfc02af68f606873015048e7d5edc)).

Wake Forest. Test optional and seriously preppy.

edited mom’s list to delete, from my knowledge, the relatively non-preppy ones (feel free to correct)

Private Universities
2 Boston University
3 Cornell University (Ithaca, NY)
4 University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia) (more rich than preppy)
5 Yeshiva University (New York City) (??)
6 George Washington University (Washington, DC)
7 Syracuse University (Syracuse, NY)
8 Emory University (Atlanta, GA)
10 Harvard University & Radcliffe College (Cambridge, MA)
11 Tulane University and Newcomb College (New Orleans, LA)
12 Brandeis University (Waltham, MA)
13 Northwestern University (Evanston, IL)
14 Washington University (St. Louis, MO)
15 University of Southern California (Los Angeles)
16 University of Miami (Coral Gables, FL)
18 Tufts University (Medford, MA)
19 University of Hartford (Hartford, CT) (??)
20 Hofstra University (Hempstead, NY)
21 Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus (New York City) (??)

Some schools are decidedly preppy, while others, like Harvard and Penn, will not be predominately preppy but will have a subset.

Also, by preppy, you could mean many things… for clothes there’s:

preppy as in Lilly Pulitzer, Vineyard Vines, Lacoste
(which I’d classify as bright colors, cardigans, pearls, ribbons, etc. and prevalent in West Palm Beach and Martha’s Vineyard/Nantucket)
preppy as in Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein
(universal preppy, not necessarily bright colors, more subdued and less pearls/cardigans and a teensy bit more fad/trend oriented)
preppy as in Juicy Couture, SoLows, Hard Tail
(ah, the “preppy” of my region, the tri-state…what I like to classify as ‘lazy prep’ in sweatsuits, solows, etc…kind of laid-back princess prep)
preppy as in Abercrombie
(fake prep. abercrombie isn’t really that preppy…but whatever. it’s more mainstream than prep but many see their style as preppy. I’d call this main-class prep or jeans prep)
preppy as in J. Crew
(trend-oriented, almost professional, still pearls/cardigans but generally softer colors and more trendy pieces. definitely a popular style)

ok so besides my preppy clothes elaboration…there’s also preppy as in everyone from Prep schools.

let us know and we’ll see how we can narrow down the list for you.

My other suggestions include Northeastern, Fairfield (obviously Catholic but there’s still a Jewish presence on campus, and very preppy), Wake Forest, and many Southern schools. It all depends on which type of preppy you’re going for though.

^^^ Thanks for eliminating the non-preppies!!! (I had no idea which were which!)

What about the publics??? Any non-preppies in that list?

BTW…

Which of these schools would have more of a strong academic feel? The OP wants to go ivy, but may not end up at one (since they are so hard to get into).

out of the ones i listed, i’ll try to rank them academically…word of advice to everyone: take my following ranking with a grain of salt and more as a general spectrum rather than an OMG #10 Green University is better than #11 Purple?! NO WAY! (: although feel free to correct any major discrepancies, i’m not an expert on rankings and don’t pretend to be!

Harvard
Penn
Emory
Northwestern
Cornell
USC
Wash U
Tufts
GWU
Brandeis
BU
Miami
Tulane
Syracuse
Yeshiva
Hofstra
Hartford
Long Island, Brooklyn

Thanks!!!

Any feelings on the publics?

Thankfully publics are so large that any student can find their niche so the OP shouldn’t have a problem finding whatever kind of students they want to associate with. However, preppiness is probably less prevalent at most publics than privates. I’m not familiar with many of the publics on that list so I can’t comment specifically though, sorry!

Preppy /=/ Party? I thought all preps did was smoke weed and drink.

Tufts, maybe?

Fairfield is a huge party school from what I’ve read on here.
