preppiest colleges

"Wow. I'm so glad I got over my preppy phase."

--preppy is not a phase you go through. Preppy is a lifestyle in which you've taken part and been born to and raised in. You don't just pop your collar and call yourself preppy because you bought some shoes from L.L. Bean. It's not only about clothes, it's about manners, upbringing, family, noblesse oblige, and not wasting a thing.

Princeton and Washington and Lee

The popped collar originated with sailors who wanted to protect their neck from sunburn. Personally, I think it looks ridiculous and terribly affected, up there with a sweater tied around one's neck.
Other prep schools: Denison, Ohio Wesleyan, Miami Ohio, Rollins, Hollins, Franklin and Marshall.

Yeah but the south has that rebel attitude. You don't come up here to the northeast seeing Confederate flags anywhere. It is a fact that people in the south are generaly nice then those in the northeast but the south has that laid back attitude while keeping up with the whole Confederate deal which ticks off some northerners.

I beg to differ. I live in a tiny town in upstate New York and people regularly drive tractors or pimped-out old trucks, both with confederate flags plastered on the back, up and down my street.

As for the post? Two words for you: Wake Forest.

W&L
Hampden Sydney
Wake Forest
Vanderbilt
UVA

...Basically where I'm applying.

Princeton sticks out as the bastion of preppiness and elitism among its more diverse Ivy brethren.

I really don't think that Princeton is actually that preppy. Elite sure, but preppy, IDK.

are bu are uw preppy???? I want to go to a preppy school but I was wondering if they are preppy????

nope - actually UW-Madison is listed in the Official Preppy Handbook (that 80s book) as one of the 10 LEAST preppy colleges in America.

amaberc is from New Jersey. I don't think he/she knows what preppy is, lol.

But no, BU and WU are not preppy. Neither is Rutgers.

God, I hate preps.

How is it that in 17 pages, Elon University is not mentioned once?

(BTW, I don't mean it as a bad thing. In fact, I applied EA and it's my first choice)

Yeah, Elon should be there. Vanderbilt is the preppiest in my opinion. Washington & Lee, Colgate, Trinity, and Conneticut College are all preppy and have a large contingency of prep school students. Basically lots of LAcs.

My friend goes to Bucknell, and when I asked her about the people there and stuff, the first thing she mentioned was how preppy everyone is.

"girls in pearls, guys in ties"....UVA, where people dress up at football games...

It's done better at UGA, Auburn, South Carolina, Alabama, etc.

SMU.

frat/sorority members dress up at GT for football games. I saw a frat brother wearing a light yellow polo buttondown, a bowtie, seersucker pants to match said buttondown, and some sperry's.

and the girl's in sundresses end any discussion of a lack of female students at GT. ;)

UVA has the "wine and cheese" football fans ie your typical rich aristocratic foot ball fan. By the way people do dress up for GT football games, pretty nicely I may add.

University of Virgina Cavilers
