preppiest colleges

dude, if you pop dat colla, you know how to get the party started, know what i mean. Poppin da collar is ill, it emblematizes a true gangstaness that 'hey, man, why go down, when you can go up..?"

Speaking of which, can you just pop ur collar to the middle and make it stand. I mean, that would be neutral correct?

that IS smu (southern methodist university)

I'm not a true prep (though I really, really, wish I could say I was). I go to a prep school, but theres some in our league that are wicked preppy Massachusetts old money schools. They do not, will not, wear abercrombie. Just to clear that up.

And collar popping doesn't necessarily equal preppiness either. There are lots of people that pop but dont prep.

And BMW isn't the only car people have. And if they have a BMW, they usually have a Lexus and a few others.

I think that preppy guys are wicked hot. As are southern accents. ;)

Prep to a certain extent i think is cute. Like for example an oxford with nice jeans, but not the layered polos with seersucker shots, etc etc etc. I think that goes for every fashion style; less is more.

collar popping is the stupidest fashion trend in the history of the world.

i asked my school counselor what pepperdine students were like...and she said "rich white kids who wear abercrombie and fitch"

Preppiness is less about money and more about attitude and actitivities. It just so happens that these actitivities are those of "rich people." Sailing? Lacrosse? Field Hockey? Check, check and check. Summering on Cape Cod and tennis. Mhm.

As for dress, definitely the polo shirt. But not those cruddy stretchy polo shirts Abercrombie and AF sell, I'm talking the thick, cotton knit polos Ralph Lauren and Lacoste "do." Lily Pulitzer. Sperry Docksiders. Pink and green. Plaid bottoms for girls and guys. Bermuda shorts on girls. Polka dots, big fake pearls, and ribbons.

Schools? Washington and Lee tops the list, as far as I know. U of Richmond. Princeton, as was said. Those North-East LACs that ARENT hippie.

Oh, and as for the debate early on about south vs. north? It does help that the southern cost of living is WAY below that in the north east...

i used to play lacrosse eckie and i enjoy sailing and you dont see me wearing any of that crap.

Duh, this whole thread is about generalizations.

well i just want to make it know that i kickass, thats all

Washington & Lee

enough said

Miami University of Ohio <3 <3 <3

Did you ever think about how different, probablly better, the USA would be if the North had lost the Civil War? True, the immediate impact on slaves would not have been sweet, but it might have worked out even better for them before too long. And the North would have been a better country ever since.

^ellaborate

I've heard Vanderbilt is very preppy.

I hear UDelaware's the preppiest you can get.

There is nothign wrong with popped collars.. I don't know why everybody has such hostility to it. Goodness gracious. I don't pop my collar but I don't understand.. anyway.

I'm from Virginia and as far as I can see Southern schools tend to be very preppy. Think UVa, Georgetown, and Vanderbilt. Some of hte preppiest schools by far (all girls schools in the South) aer Sweetbriar and Meredith. I don't see anything wrong with preps, as I am one myself.. nice, classic, conservative business-casual clothes beat loose, saggy, or slutty/revealing clothes any day.

You know the funny thing at my high school is that none of the kids who pop thier collars (be it A&F, Lacoste, Polo, or burberry) and such will get into any of the colleges mentioned above like Princeton or any of the top LAC's. Most of them end up at Penn State, Rutgers, UConn, or any other state school

I always thought in australia the lifted collars orginated from people living in the country on farms trying to escape getting a burnt neck. I thought this as at my school it tended to be mainly the boarders from the country who lifted thier collars. Then all of a sudden it seemed to become mainstream and i was seeing upright collars everywhere!

Anyway it turns out my theory must have been wrong, and i should have realised this as farmers tend not to wear pearls :P

Does the tension come from the fact that preppy people tend to be snobs? or is it just that people like to dislike certain groups in society...

Ive met some lovely girls who pop thier collars, and some total nightmares. What does prep represent in the US?

Have any of you been to Princeton anytime lately? There is definitely a prepy population, but the corwd is really diverse. I went to Princeton about two weeks ago to visit relatives that live there and I stopped by at Princeton to check out the campus and I would say the preppy crowd there would be along the lines of 1/3 or 1/4 something like that. A really really really preppy college and probably the preppiest one in the nation would be Yale, honestly. Yale has a very stron alumni connection and its mostly rich old money kids who had their grandparents go to Yale and then their parents and now its their turn. I also visited Harvard in May and even though the population was really diverse, the people were much more trendy and fashionable. Here is my ranking on preppiness.

1)Yale
2)Washington & Lee
3)Colgate University
4)Princeton
5)Hamilton College
6)WIlliams
7)Amherst
8)Trinity
9)Colby
10)Dartmouth

Also, if you haven't realized by now, REAL preps are specifically in the Northeast and nowhere else because being preppy is a Lifestyle, just like anyhting else. I visited nearly all the ivies and top LAC's and these were really preppy. The only exception taht I found being Southern preppy was W&L which surprisingly had real preps. Some honorable mentions are; Wesleyan, Bates, Conneticut College, Cornell, Columbia, Bowdoin...Honestly, these are the most preppy colleges I have seen, even though the honorable mentions were much much more diverse.
