Pre-medwannabe, how could you leave out Middlebury (unless you didn't get that far north in your visits); matter of fact, the joke about the question of diversity at Middlebury is "where did you prep?" Think every prep school east of the Mississippi is represented there. In that sense, I'd put it on your list at #5 and put Hamilton among the HMs. Also preppy in the South: Davidson (lot of kids from NE there), Hampton-Sydney and Wake Forest.

Collegeparent, truly sorry I did not visit Middlebury, but a friend of mine who attends hotchkiss said that minimum 5 people every year from his school alone go to Middlebury and said it was complete prep-fest. lol the new list is:

1)Yale
2)Washington & Lee
3)Colgate University
4)Princeton University
5)Middlebury college
6)Williams college
7)Amherst college
8)Trinity College
9)Dartmouth (Dartmouth was actually preppier than Colby)
10)Colby College

Honorable Mentions: Wesleyan, Bates, Conneticut College, Cornell, Columbia, Bowdoin, and Hamilton. I am keeping this list specifically Northeast Prep.

um..not to be a pest, but how on earth could you put connecticut college, let alone wesleyan- with one of the biggest hippy populations around, on THE top 10 list? wesleyan wouldnt go on my top 100, and conn would be around 40.

I didn't bother to read all the other posts because I'm too busy laughing at post #6.

I did happen see the one about Confederate Flags, though.

Ok...here's the deal. Most of the people down here that have CF stickers on their pick-up trucks (and yes...99% of vehicles with the CF on them are pick-ups) are ignorant hicks that think they're badass for being a "rebel." Personally, I roll my eyes and carry on my merry way.

However, there are also a lot of folks around here that have CFs for purely historical reasons. They had family that fought in the Confederate Army and all that mess. Their representation of the CF isn't about discrimination or hate at all, it's about their heritage. I dunno, I just think it's important for people to realize that.

Yeah I knew someone would point out Wesleyan because of the so-called hippie campus thing, but Wesleyan consists of some serious prep population and the hippies are dying out slowly there and preps are getting into full gear. Also, you don't have to take my word for it, just go on the Wesleyan thread, I am sure someone else mentioned it too. Wesleyan is a top liberal arts college in CT, do you really think there isn't going to be a huge prep population? I saw the same thing on my visit to Bates except to a lesser extent. Also, Conneticut College tends to have a lot of fake Abercrombie/Hollister preps too. This is the reason why I gave it an honorable mention, but preps do consist there.

Dunkaroo: "These southerners are collar popping individuals who believe they have all the money in the world. It's just that their small town lifestyle where they believe is full of money is nothing when it comes to the big boy's in the Northeast and the player's out in California".

i agree. but even these Northeasterners think they are rich, but when "the players out in California" come to the East Coast, they put everybody in there place. It is a whole different world in California, but most of the Californians are oblivious that the rest of America doesn't live the good life like they do. so they are actually more humble.

premedwannabe- why yes, i have actually spent a quite significant amount of time at wesleyan, and for every kid with a popped collar that you see, you 'll see 10 hippies/free-spiriters, and 10 hipsters with their clark kent glasses, funky hair, and unconventional clothes.
i went to conn, and the preppy stereotype is SO not true. you have of course your handful of popped collar republicans wearing their pearls, dressed in jcrew and ralph lauren, but the rest of the students wouldnt be caught dead with a popped collar.

Premed, Huskem - You're both right. Technically speaking, Wesleyan is the preppiest small college in America if you merely look at the number of top boarding school graduates that matriculate there. Look at every CC "Matriculation" thread (search username: "Papachicken") and you'll see Wesleyan right there above Amherst and above Williams.

However, Huskem also has a point; once there, many preppies thrive on the relative freedom they didn't have in prep school and run screaming from anything so much as suggesting the stereotypical preppy image. For many of them, it's a matter of "been there; done that."

Washington and Lee certainly tops the list. UVA, Vandy, Gtown follow. schools like trinity, conn, colby, penn, even princeton should not be classified as preppy. when i visited princeton, for example, i saw a sizeable number of preppy people; but i saw many more who were nowhere close.

i am laughing at the fact that many people here think popped collars and abercrombie are preppy.

My list of preppiest schools (not based on stereotypes, but personal experience, research, etc. also im not familiar enough with most schools west of the mississippi, so i didnt consider many of those schools):

Huskem55's 30 Preppiest Schools:

Auburn
Baylor
Boston College
Bowdoin
Brigham Young
Bucknell
Clemson
Colgate
College of Charleston
Dartmouth
Davidson
Duke
Fairfield (CT)
Georgetown
Holy Cross
Miami (OH)
Mississippi
Notre Dame
Pepperdine
Princeton
Richmond
Syracuse
Trinity (CT)
Vanderbilt
Villanova
Virginia
Wake Forest
Washington & Lee
William and Mary
Williams

good list, huskem. i would agree with all except pepperdine. i got more of the malibu free spirited surfer vibe when i saw it.

and they blame minorities for sitting together in the cafeteria.

W&L
Bucknell
Colgate
Hampden-Sydney
Davidson
Gettysburg

The preppiest schools are Dartmouth, any NESCAC or Patriot league school, Duke, Princeton, Yale, Wake Forest, Georgetown, UVA, Babson, and BC. I go to a prep school in CT and the majority of the students go to NESCAC, IVY, and Patriot league schools as well as the schools listed above.

I don't get popped collars. Really, what's the point? It doesn't look any better...

Up here in the Yooper State, there is actual discrimination against preps, but often in a mocking or joking way. There are also a lot of fake preps.

I don't dress like a prep, I dress like a nerd. I am a nerd (my username gives it away). Nerds rock!

Did someone really say that America would be better off if the South had won the Civil War? Am I stupid for wondering about the validity of that statement? Sure, everyone is entitled to an opinion, but if it can't be backed up with facts, it can't really be taken seriously.

wow, someone did say the slaves would have been better off if the south had won

do people really still think like that, scary stuff and pathetic at its core

my vote goes to University of Miami!

I heard that the Preppy Handbook from the 1980's was pretty much based on students at Lehigh. Could be wrong, though...

Connecticut College, the real thing...Miami of Ohio-JCrewU...should I say mare?
