Prepping for the sat!

Hello I am a sophomore in high school and time is flying by and I am planning on taking the SAT in May of next year or March. I am wondering what are some good books for prepping each individual part of the SAT. Since winter, I have been studying critical reading as I took practice tests and improved from 400 to my best test of 600. I used Kaplan and currently studying with Barons. My goal is to roughly earn a 720-800 on the Critical reading section and for Vocab I have been using KAPLAN book I and II + Barons I have memorized about 300 vocab words. I plan on picking up the pace in the summer and a question I have is many people recommend the Direct Hits Vocab book I and II; anyone comment whether the direct hit books are good. For grammar, what is a good book to really focus on grammar, currently using Barons as well. My grammar and critical reading are my weakest points. My grammar portion I would say is about a 450 and I really want to improve it to a 700-750 by next year. My math and writing is exceptional but what are some good books for prepping for math. From taking PSATS and practice tests before I began studying I range at about a 1400-1500 and a sad 151 in October. Is 2200+ a goal I can achieve by May of next year?

Anything is possible. You’re going to have to grind things out, though. Good luck.

In my experience, highly motivated students who start off with a sophomore PSAT score in the 150-160 range usually top out in the 2000-2100 range…which is significant improvement in my book.

I’d recommend taking the SAT in the fall of your junior year. Don’t wait until May. You’ll be up to your eyeballs in AP tests by then.

You should also consider the opportunity cost of spending so much time on SAT test prep.
