I don’t know if you’re abbreviating for your convenience but D&G is not Dolce & Gabbana, just as Marc by Marc Jacobs is not Marc Jacobs.

Lolwut? Is this about SATC and Hermes? Birkins are among the items that will quite likely remain in style for all of the foreseeable future, and I’d think anyone with minimal fashion knowledge would be cognizant of this. Hermes doesn’t do styles, just as ateliers don’t. It issues pretty much the same high-quality, hand-made bags every year, with little variation. Hermes in general never goes out of style. The very idea is laughable.

By D&G I was meaning the discount line. Any designer that needs to create a discount line just reinforces that the designs he/she creates aren’t sufficient enough to stand by themselves. I’m not trying to say “buy this not that because of the label”, it’s jut a suggestion list of what I usually find acceptable. All designers have a faux pas here and there- just the ones I mention are found-by me- to have the least amount of mistakes. All labels have good and bad merchandise, as to be expected. This thread is for those that are asking for fashion advice. Either take it or ignore it- there’s no need to impugn someone for their opinions. P.S. Hermes and Birkin have some hideous items, as do many others, so you can NEVER say that it will always be in style. I do realize that my opinion of class and fashion may differ from many of you- it must be a geographical difference. I attend school in the US but my parents live in France. I grew up in the fashion capital of the world. It’s something that I’ve always held as second nature.

Dolce&Gabana isn’t a cheap brand its a designer label. And I always shop at Saks 5th and Bergdorf Goodman, and have never seen D&G priced below $200. And I live in NYC a very important city for fashion. LV, yea to me its starting to look tacky seeing some people wearing it to look like their rich, but anyone can spot a fake. Gucci’s monogram looks so tacky and cheap to me, I would never buy anything with it monogram on it. But, LV is the most exclusive brand out there, and the most expensive.

A&F, Hollister, A&E are fake preppy. There clothes are of cheap quality, and tacky.

Preppy:
J. Crew
Ralph Lauren [Rugby too]
Lilly Pulitzer
Lacoste
Brooks Brothers
etc.
Gap, Banana, A&F are somewhat preppy if you wear them right. Things like bean boots, Hunter rain boots [wellies], sperry’s etc. are common. preppy style generally places quality over flashiness [“designer” brands are actually pretty rare], and hand-me-downs/old articles of clothing are common [preppy clothes generally last a long time and are classic].

^^ I’d agree with you, but also add Bulberry and Tommy Hilfiger is a little preppy (in my opinion). What is not preppy is the clothes labels being very visible ie. all over the clothes. So I’m afraid A&F and Hollister aren’t very preppy.

In the South (I was born in NJ but raised in FL and NC), the majority of preppy GUYS (sorry, idk much about girls) wear (including me):

Ralph Lauren/Lacoste/Brooks Brothers Polos (I personally have 25 Ralph Lauren polos, which I significantly prefer over Lacoste because they fit better. Also, they’re all small-ponied. Big ponies are too flashy for the preppy look. DON’T KILL ME. I get all of my polos for ~$20 and have been wearing them since 8th grade…I’m not rich, I just shop smart).

Flat Front (NO CARGOS) shorts/chinos/linens. Preferably from Ralph Lauren or Brooks Brothers, in a variety of colors. I like the sky blue shorts with a bright polo or just barely khaki (almost white) chinos with a subtle polo. My personal thing is to match the logo of the Polo with the color of my shorts/chinos (I only own 4 colors of shorts: white, black, khaki, and sky blue, so I like to look for Polos with those colors as logos).

Sperrys/Rainbows. I prefer Sperrys (I have 2 pairs, but I just recently purchased my second pair. My first pair was from Freshman year and I’m currently a senior) because they’re more durable and can be worn with chinos.

Belts should be worn in multi-colors, but I prefer a light brown or black because I’m not flashy. Most of the multi-colored belts SCREAM preppy, which is something I tend to refrain from. I’m your understated prep :)

In conclusion, preppy brands include, but are not limited to, :
Ralph Lauren
Brooks Brothers
Lacoste
J. Crew
Vineyard Vines
Lily Pulitzer
Sperry Topsider
Rainbow
Gap/Banana Republic
Tommy Hilfiger

Preppy brands do NOT include:
Abercrombie
Hollister
American Eagle
Express (although I do own some of their button downs/track jackets because they’re nice for evening wear)
Armani Exchange
Aeropostale
Guess

^Nope, I go to Department Stores like Belk and Dillards. You have to go when they’re having big sales like 50% off with an extra 30% off (which would give you polos for $26.25) or 70% off with an extra 30% off (which would give you polos for $15.75). Pretty much, just go at the end of every season, preferably summer because that’s when the brighter polos go on sale.

I’ll occasionally go the Ralph Lauren boutique if they’re having good sales on jackets/chinos/button downs, but usually the polos are only 25-40% off without any extra off, so it’s not worth it.
