What colleges are generally thought to be very preppy?

As in ones to avoid??!!

I would think those top LACs (Amherst, Williams, Hamilton, Wesleyan)would qualify if you mean the old definition of preppy... tons of money, actual boarding school (not just good publics), and the study of things like British Lit, etc. No engineers, physicists, or (horrors!) business. Anyway, they never wore slutty clothes, always had short hair has little girls, and a slightly longer hairdo for little boys. Check out the old book: The Preppy Handbook. The only permitted sports would be things like LaX, fencing (yes!)... where there is no possibility of financial reimbursement or notoriety.

I am unclear as to the "current" meaning of preppy... I think it might be more of a valley girl cutesy definition. Shopping, cheerleading, etc. are prominent activities for girls - I don't know what for boys.

I am looking for the older definition.

I'm actually looking for some safety school that are very preppy.

need to know your stats before we can suggest some safety schools!

fencersmother: No one of our generation would ever consider Wesleyan preppy! (In either the new definition, where the term is in many ways realted to "jocky," or even using the old definition, because there are not so many of the prep school types here anymore).

Anyway, to the OP: stats are definitly needed. it might help to give us some other criteria too (location, size, etc).

Amherst, really, isn't really what I'd call preppy, either.

Dartmouth College, Boston College, Trinity, Conneticut College, Bucknell, Vanderbilt, Georgetown, U Virginia, Lehigh, Lafayette, Villanova, Colgate are a few that pop into my mind...

Saint Joseph's University is pretty preppy in Pennsylvania too, for a safety maybe?

Safety (depending on your stats) - Hobart & William Smith, Union, Sewanee, Rhodes, Gettysburg, Bucknell

Southern preppy or Northeast preppy?

Colgate, Holy Cross, Davidson.

Wake Forest?

A quick overview of my stats-

Washington and Lee

I think of Lehigh when I hear preppy. You have a pretty good shot given just what you've provided.

fencersmom - Wesleyan has more than a few physicists. I don't disagree with the rest of your post, tho. :p

St. Lawrence U.

safties/matches with your stats:

Is your GPA 3.6 unweighted? If not, what is your unweighted GPA? How many AP courses are you taking in high school? The answers to these questions will help determine which schools would be safeties for you.

My GPA is 3.6 unweighted, and I'm only taking one AP course this year; it is all my high school offers.

I go to a rural high school with only 13 kids in my senior class.
