PrepReview Ranking 2010?

What are you going on about. To infer SPS “fame” has come with some ranking system is ridiculous, I think you may like to rethink that statement and use your head. SPS “fame” hasn’t come through the ranking of prepreview, just as Andover and Exeters “fame” hasn’t come through being 2 of the oldest. No need to go on *****ing about everything. If you don’t like prepreview, don’t read the prepreivew thread…or simply disregard their rankings.

Read and use your head. Just because I said “fame that comes with that ranking” doesn’t mean SPS is not a fine school by its own. I am saying the “part of its fame” because of the prepreview ranking is not justifiable. If you believe A/E shouldn’t be proud of their being the oldest (if they are), it’s your belief and you do have the rights to express that opinion. And by the way, don’t you tell me what to read or what to say.

The reference to clusters was the engineer in me recognizing that even if the metric selected was meaningful the data is just not that accurate and is affected by trends and normal statistical variations. For example, A/E/S seem to have annual rates of approx. 30% plus or minus 5%. The variability is dampened somewhat (not eliminated) by going with a 4 year or so horizon, but if, for example, S comes out at 31.2% and E is 31.1% they are not statistically different. That’s recognized by clustering. If they wanted to expand their methodology clusters could also recognize schools that are similar in other ways (school size, type of location, cultural elements, etc.).

Besides, imagine all the fun the acronym crazy folks on this board could have naming the clusters. With Milton in on the fun it could be the “SAME” cluster. If Groton shoots to the top it would be “GAMES.” Alternatively, Deerfield making an entrance could yield “DAMES.” That would keep this board going for years.

I would vote you to head Prep Review. :), but please do remember to document your methodology in the “fine print”.
