Preps

What I am going to ask is ridiculous, but my friend and her obsessions with preppy style are driving me insane. So, what designer clothes are typically considered preppy, what designer clothes are typcially considered fake preppy and are Ivy League schools like Yale, Princeton, and Harvard overwhelmingly preppy? I just want to some added perspective since my friend "swears" she is the preppiest girl that walks the Earth. Also, what mannerisms or conduct do preps exhibit. I know that the "traditional" definition of a prep are those that exhibit reserve, not leaning toward ostentatious attire! Anyway, any perspective would be greatly appreciated.

Clothes:
Brooks brothers
J crew
Vineyard Vines
J press
Polo
Lacoste
LL Bean
etc etc

Not considered:
A&F, american eagle etc etc
Essentially YGMC (your generic mall clothing)

You have a sizable prep population at all the ivies. Pton, Penn have a very sizable prep pop. (Have visited Pton and viewed first hand, was at Penn during summer but observed by people there/going there).

i am not a prep myself but i know what a prep is; some people mistake the "ehmagawd" and "totally", abercrombie-dressing, ugg-wearing girl with the louis vuitton handbag as preppy. that is more of a trendy valley girl. it's a different style of fashion from a prep, though they are both portrayed as rich.

preppy brands include ralph lauren, (lacoste originally but it's gotten so trendy and popular that i think it's also for a j.a.p.) brooks brothers, ll bean, j crew. very classic and traditional style of dressing overall.

you're right, preps arent supposed to dress ostentatiously, nor flaunt their wealth, supposedly. and i wouldnt say that yale, harvard, princeton etc is ALL prep....of course there are plenty of midwesterners, lower-middle-class, diverse people there...though i'm sure they have a fair share of preps. i've heard that princeton is the most preppy of the three.

i've heard that you can get very helpful definitions on urbandictionary.com. there you can look up preppy/prep and decide for yourself. go do it!

also: ask your friend if she owns the preppy handbook by lisa birnbach. if she thinks you're joking or hasnt heard of it (yes, it is an actual book) then she is not a true, born-to-the-martha's-vineyard-manor-prep. lol.

Why do CC people want a WASP handbook?

Yawn. Wasn't there a humongous thread about this topic not so long ago?

Middle class preps are like suburban gangstas.

.....word^

"since my friend "swears" she is the preppiest girl that walks the Earth."

tell her to **** off. Does she even go to a prep school?

Also, does she own a lot of lily pulitzer? their sundresses are considered preppy.

Does she have good manners?

Preps don't wear denim skirts.

preppy handbook question is a good one, also ask about Emily Post's Guide to Etiquette

Jesus Christ you people are pathetic.

preps are dumb. clothes are tools of civilization, they keep you warm and covered. being obsessed with clothes is like being obsessed with power tools or silverware.

why are there so many threads like this???

and yet I know people obsessed with silverware and powertools....strange world we live in..

are there as many of those as there is preps? that's the point

^perhaps...we should organize a battle, silverware-buffs vs preps.....I bet on the sivlerware dudes, preps are weak and girlish

^Indeed, but preps can hire people to fight the battle for them.

'looking for screwdriver and forks' KILL!!!

FrddyGV- There is no honor in hiring men to fight ones battle. Honor is all!! HAUUUU ommmmmm
enters into meditation position and assumes special fighting dragon position as a ray of light shines on megaman and celestial music plays in the background

sure...your "friend" wants to know...
