Has anybody used Prepscholar ACT? If so how many points did you increase and how does it compare to other test prep. Also do you actually get your money back if you do not increase 4 points the next test you take?
I do not care for it. Did not help me.
I don’t recommend any online prep for ACT unless you do not know any background knowledge for ACT.
I love it. It is really different than other online prep.
I have heard good things about Prep scholar.
My son used it and liked the style of it. He took an ACT test in the middle of the course and his score went up 2 points. We are waiting for the final Sept results. He needs 2 more points or I will be requesting a refund. The prepscholar people are very quick to reply to questions/ emails and are very helpful.
My son used Prep Scholar this summer and took the September ACT. He used it for 10 weeks about 5 hours a week - didn’t complete the entire program, probably had another 10-20 hours left. He got a 29 in March and just got his September score of 34 - so he improved 5 points.
He liked the way it was set up - but it is a lot of time to complete the entire program - you have to get a ‘Mastery’ on each topic - maybe 50+ topics and several levels on each topic. Each topic has a written explanation then you take a test - if you do well on the test, you move up a level, if not, you eventually have to take the section again to move on.
My opinion is that it would be very tough to complete the program (which you have to do) and not improve to qualify for the refund. I’d be surprised if they gave many refunds. He had 3 months to try and finish but there were still sections he just couldn’t master - too tough.
They use the Red Book for practice tests and had him complete 5 tests over the summer - I’m not sure how much he would have improved if he hadn’t signed up but just took the 5 tests and reviewed his mistakes.
The only downside I saw is that they were very slow to grade the essays - we had to follow up just to get scores.
In the end you have to do the work to improve but the program definitely makes it easy to focus on the areas you need to improve. For us, it was worth the price compared to signing him up for some of the local classes offered. It is individually focused so he wasn’t wasting time on ideas/topics he already had mastered.
The list of schools he can realistically look at applying to next year is considerably different with a 34 compared to a 29.
