Hi, I am a two year sophomore at Northfield Mount Hermon school on the east coast. I started sweep rowing in the spring of 2015 and I also did some sculling camps over the summer. I am 15yo, 6’4, 163lbs. My best 2k was this summer, a 7:18. I posted this discussion in the prep school chances because I want to become a better rower and apply to another prep school as a senior/ PG like Phillips Academy Andover or Deerfield where there is a stronger rowing program than my current one, also my sister attends andover so it’d be fun to be together :D. Since my last 2k I have been doing 30min steady state twice a day with a heart rate monitor, any suggestions here? Also I was wondering if I should take a gap year after sophomore or junior year to attend a year long rowing camp to increase my skills. I have heard New Zealand has strong programs but I would be interested in personal, experienced opinions? Thanks for reading.
P.S. I am new to College Confidential so if I am doing something wrong please correct me.
I love your enthusiasm but NMH has a fine rowing program and you’re a novice. I would stay where you are because if rowing at a great college is your goal… you can get there from NMH.
