prerequisite courses

So I am considering transferring to a school for computer science but am currently enrolled in one as an IT major. The curriculum is fairly similar but a few classes are missing. These classes were ones that I had noticed on certain school's transfer requirements for their computer science courses (because for some reason, no other school has an IT degree.) So what I'm basically asking is the following: Are those courses completely mandatory and take precedence over my GPA, resume, and such? What options do I have in my situation? And how does a school determine if one of your courses count as part of the prerequisites? (most course requirement sheets have something that says "take x class or its equivalent.")

Thanks for any help

IT and CS are quite different at many schools, with IT (or MIS) being more of a business degree that is light on technical stuff.

If you want to go into CS, take the courses for CS. Indeed, even if you continue to do IT because you prefer the “business” side more or envision a career in system and network administration, a few selected advanced CS courses like operating systems, networks, databases, and security can be very helpful in IT.
