Prerequisites and UCLA and Berkeley.

I think I've read somewhere around here that one should have all prerequisites for one's respective major completed by the time of applying.

Lets say I am a Mathematics major and I want to transfer to Berkeley. Does that mean that I'll have to have Calculus I, II, III, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations by the end of my first year (because the proceeding Fall I'd be applying and I'd then have the prerequisites completed by then). Or would it be fine if I had completed Calculus I, II, and Linear Algebra, and had Calculus II and Differential Equations in progress by the time of applying?

Now, lets say I decided I wanted to major in Business Economics at UCLA or Business Administration at Berkeley. Is there anything I should know about the prerequisites (say have almost all of the Haas requirements by the time of applying)?

Thanks

You need to have your prereqs done or scheduled by the time you apply. Not all reqs can be done by the time you apply, so it's unreasonable for them to expect otherwise.

Get really high grades. Really really high.

For Haas you should have all prereqs done when you apply along with the breadth reqs. It is not required but it is highly suggested and as UCLAri said you should have a high gpa to go with it. Check out the Haas thread in this forum you can see the stats for those applying this year.

Notice that everyone here's saying that you ** should ** complete them by the time you apply. However, you dont HAVE TO. The adcoms still consider you for admission even if you don't have all the pre-reqs complete by the time you apply. But it is ** HIGHLY recommended ** that you complete AS MANY PREREQS COURSES POSSIBLE by the time you apply. It'll make you more competitive for the admission.

If that's impossible, just make sure you have them complete ** by the end of spring prior to your enrollment to the new school (the one that you are transferring to) **.

Just make sure that pre-req courses are your HIGHEST priority to complete first.

and don't forget your IGETC!

for some majors (UCLA's bizecon), pre-reqs will overlap with IGETC requirement, so that'll be hitting two birds with one stone (whatever the exact phrase is).

but IGETC isn't really required for transfer, whereas PREREQS are ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED. But it'll do you SO MUCH GOOD if you get your IGETC done in cc :P

man, i been confusing them lol. I had them the other way around.

I thought it was: complete as many prereqs as you can and get the IGETC certified.

I'm majoring in History, so i know my prereqs arn't that important. Besides, i only need like 3 of them.

It's a little more like..."all the prereqs that your school offers are absolutely required."

well I didnt write down the obvious, so excuse me.

Weeellll...it's not always THAT obvious. Transfer is not really always a simple thing. There are plenty of loopholes, loopmountains, loopcurves, and looprocksintheroad to confuse anyone.

but the part you mentioned WAS REALLY obvious.
Anyone who's intereested in transferring would know about assist.org.

"Course not articulated. MUST be taken at UCLA"

ANY literate person would know that this is the exception to the pre-req completion rule.

dhl,

Not everyone is as wonderful and well-versed on this stuff as you. In fact, some people are JUST starting and are not really sure of everything going on. It never really hurts to give someone MORE detailed info, now does it?

I knew about this the moment I looked at the assist.org

am i just the smarter breed than other average people that I was able to figure this thing out on my own?

dhl3, what is your status? if you don't mind me asking.

what current school? if transferring, to which?

you seem very knowledgeable in all these topics, Which is cool because you answer all our questions.

You little ingrates...

UCLAri, you help a lot too!

just curious. Why is your name UCLA, don't you attend UCSD?

to answer your question, tonyage..

im currently attending a really neat community college in Valencia.
aka College of the Canyons.
It's not really well known in this board, but really, as far as im concerned, i think it's really the best cc (largely due to school pride) in california.

I'm applying to four schools for transfer:

Berkeley
UCLA
USC
UC San Diego.

My two first choice schools are UCLA and USC, followed by Berkeley and UC San Diego (UCSD is the back up school).

as for my stats, ask UCLAri. He always seems so interested in me that i won't be surprised at all if he has my stats fully memorized deep down to his heart.

can't you just tell me? I'm going to try and guess!

3.77 gpa without TAP

how close am i?

Pretty impressive, but you got some wrong.

Unfortunately, my GPA is not as high as you've expected.
It's actually a 3.71. However, this will change soon by the end of this month (to a 3.76), and it will change further by the end of the fall (to a 3.84).

And I am in TAP.
