So should I TRY to take my Prerequisites before the igetc classes? And Does it matter if I dont finish all my Prerequisites at the time of applying( so will I be at a disadvantage if I have one in my last spring semester)
Thanks!

You do not have to have all of your pre-reqs done when you apply. As long as you complete them by the end of Spring prior to transfer, you should be fine. Try to have most of them done by the end of Fall though. UCs don’t like to see lots of pre-reqs in progress during Winter and Spring, as they want to see what kind of grades you get in those classes before they accept you. It’s perfectly fine to have 1 or 2 pre-reqs in progress for Winter and Spring without it affecting you. I had one in progress this Spring and was accepted to UCLA. They don’t really care if it’s only a couple, they just don’t like to all them left to after Fall. One thing I would say is that you should have your 1 UC-transferable Math done by the end of Fall though if you haven’t done it already. Don’t leave that to Winter or Spring. And try to have your English done as well if you can, although it’s not as important as having Math done.

okay thanks man. I’m looking to transfer into ucla or cal. and i’ll be sure to follow the advice. thanks again!

I would suggest finishing IGETC first, because majors change; and when you major changes, that’s another headache.

oh btw I am intrested in this too. sorry for jumping in good advice for both of us

igetc can get in the ways, i think major prereqs are better to focus on and fit them into igetc. i didnt finish igetc and am transferring. also i followed the four course something or something something something. ya i am tired.

If you don’t finish IGETC…do you have to fulfill all the lower division GE courses again at a UC?

SadFool there might be 2-3 classes that you might have to take just for the UC’s GE requirements. Not too shabby I guess.

SadFool, if you don’t finish IGETC you will have a much harder time getting accepted at a UC, so you should make finishing it your priority. If you don’t finish IGETC, you will have to satisfy whatever GE requirements your school has, which may be dramatically different from the classes you did already take. It would really suck if you had to take another math/science/social science class after transferring because you couldn’t complete the basic IGETC sequence.

What if you completed all IGETC classes but didn’t get certified for whatever reason?

Why wouldn’t you get it certified if you did it?

Philosoup, Are you talking about the 2-3 upper division or 2-3 lower division courses? I know that after transferring you still have to complete 2-3 upper so I’m wondering if you are referring to those.

@UCBhopeful16 I sometimes feel like my school might not let me get certified for some reason. I took all the classes to qualify but I’m not sure. please help

@sadfool under division classes.
