Prescreen and live audition material for BFA MT

Hello all, I’m helping my D navigate the world of college auditions for musical theatre. Her prescreen auditions are going well and she is getting callbacks for live auditions. My question: do people usually pick new material for the live audition, or use the same material from their prescreen? Help is appreciated!!

Some schools have specific notes on their audition page on this. Ithaca, for example, wants you to use the same material at the live audition as in the prescreen.

Each school differs, some schools require that you bring the same material! Make sure to check requirements carefully!

If you passed a prescreen, that meant they liked what you did! – as long as your prescreen material is within the school’s requirements (each is different) I would not worry about singing the same thing.

We watch hundreds of videos each year, there is no way we can remember what each person sings on their prescreen. If you passed the prescreen, it means they like you and you should have confidence in your audition package. If for some reason you think you have something better to show (a lot can happen in three months), then go for it. ~VT
