Prescreen DVD's

Does anyone have any information about how difficult it is to pass the DVD prescreening process this year to be invited to audition for schools such as U of Michigan, Texas State, and OU? I'm wondering how many candidates they will actually be seeing this year compared to last year.

I know more schools are starting to prescreen-other than the 3 schools listed and I believe Otterbein prescreens does anyone know who else does?

Prescreens for HS class of 2012:

 • Otterbein
 • Indiana University
 • Texas State
 • U of Michigan
 • U of Oklahoma

Please add to the list if you know of other programs requiring a prescreen.

When I auditioned for UMich, I heard there were about 600 prescreen applicants and around 350 were invited for a live audition.

I don’t think there is any way to gauge the difficulty of passing a prescreen any more than you can predict what programs will accept you. And just like at an audition, someone may be rejected for reasons beyond their control.

In the past, UMich had 600-650 apply and 400-450 passed the academic prescreen. I had heard they still passed 400-450 with the prescreen. I also heard a faculty member say that since it was new to them, they were a bit more lenient with this year’s prescreen - so next year’s numbers could vary.

I’ve heard that Elon is prescreening this coming year.

NYU Steinhardt MT also has a prescreen

There was another thread earlier this year in which a very ambitious dad made and kept adding to a list of all the schools that did prescreening. I suggest searching for it rather than reinventing the wheel . . .

Here is the thread that covered prescreens and how to submit auditions by dvd - very helpful! Last page has the most comprehensive list:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/1186763-dvd-audition.html?highlight=prescreen

@Christie2 - yes, that is great a great list.

It seems that by the end of the DVD Audition thread, the list had morphed to include a combination of both types of digital submissions, but I think the name of that original thread would be misleading for someone specifically looking for Pre-screen info versus submitting a DVD to replace a live audition. The former is a requirement, the latter is an option.

I’m not agreeing or disagreeing that this thread should end, but as classicalbk said, “These are two entirely different beasts, as it were.”

I created this list with the input from others. It may be more complete. Here you go.
