Prescreen results

Thanks Fiddlestix!!! We’ll think positively…

For those interested, here’s the link to the thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/605461-pre-screening-results-2008-2009-a.html?highlight=prescreen</a> from last year. There’s lots of general info in it, some personal insights, angst and elation, but remember what happened time-wise and results-wise last year is not necessarily indicative of THIS year.

Audition pools change, the economy may have an effect, faculty changes affect the make-up and competitiveness of some studios/instruments.

And as fiddlestix said, checking directly is the best way of eliminating any doubts, especially if you haven’t heard by the notify date.

Breathe deeply, and good luck to all.

Thursday I found out I didn’t make MSM, but yesterday I got an email about passing the NEC prescreen! For some reason, I always figured it would be the other way around, so it was kind of surprising.

I’m not sure what to expect for the other schools I’m waiting on. So I guess I just have to keep waiting.

On Thursday, Oberlin mailed early audition results from 12/5. My D got hers today -accepted for vocal performance. YAY. Now we just need the money to go. Good thing I haven’t written my letter to Santa yet.

Congrats to POTO Mom’s D!!! It is great to have that first admission. My youngest is graduating from Oberlin this spring (not a con student) and has loved it.

sprstr - those prescreen results can seem pretty random. A friend of my D’s didn’t get through the pre screen for NEC, but did for MSM and Curtis. Some of it depends on what they look for in a particular year perhaps. Mezzos and big voiced sopranos with the potential to be dramatics have an advantage but even they can have very confusing results.

Our S got his positive prescreen email from MSM two days ago (Friday) for his composition application. Waiting, like so many others, on several more. Anxious times, eh? :)

Good luck to all.

I got through the prescreening round at Oberlin to audition live on 2/13. Excited!!

Congrats Richard and Terrence!

POTO MOM, I just had a student get into Oberlin for VP too. Congrats to your daughter. To have this type of acceptance this early in the process really takes the edge off!

Has anyone gotten word from Mannes yet? I’m getting a little anxious over here because I’ve already heard from my other pre-screened schools.

I haven’t–I’m going for flute too. I haven’t heard from Juilliard, either. They (or at least Mannes) said they’d send out results a month for auditions, so I’m guessing they’d send them out January or even Feburary…

YAY - We just got an email from NEC confirming audition date of 2/26. Now we are waiting on Eastman and Curtis.

soozievt - great news for you! Maybe you should pm me and it’s somebody my D has gone to summer camp with. She saw some people there she knew.

Have heard from everyone but UCLA (no prescreen, though) and NEC, although I think the NEC website says only vocal applicants will hear before Christmas. OR did I dream that?

Jazz/shreddermom - be sure to stay on top of UCLA. I remember hearing horror stories of audition days scheduled without informing the applicants! Don’t assume anything with them.

thanks, SpiritManager - we will. They have a funky system. The website says audition dates go out via email beginning Dec. 1. The music supplement, which includes an “audition confirmation form” is due Jan 8th. My son mailed the supplement Dec. 1, minus the “audition confirmation form”, because he had not yet received a day/time. He then asked, and was told to wait until he received a day/time and then send in that form. Now the office is closed until Jan. 4th and “no emails will be answered until that time.”

jazz/shreddermom, could you call UCLA and inquire? They are really and truly closed? This early? Guess they’re enjoying some time on the beach- Eastern schools are still working through tomorrow!

I actually emailed or called early last week, never heard back. Yes, I believe they are really and truly closed. It must be a Hollywood thing (Hollywood is closed, too). But I will try again tomorrow.

UCLA is on the quarter system. Fall quarter ended December 11th. The campus is closed December 19th through January 3rd. So, nothing will happen at all until after that. As far as pre-screens go, I wonder if they’ve listened to any yet, or will they wait and hear them all after the deadline…

Again, there are no prescreens for UCLA. Nothing for anyone listen to. Only a music supplement/essay to fill out, but that is due Jan. 8th, the same day the “audition confirmation” form is due. In fact, technically the audition confirmation is part of the supplement.

Like I said, weird system. Their website says they begin emailing audition days Dec. 1.
