Prescreen results

When DD auditioned at UCLA they were very late gettign the info out. We got the weekend and time only 2 weeks before the date. We actually took a gamble based on her other pre-screen results and booked the flights. (Voice requires pre-screen) When her time was assigned and we could not do that one they were very accommodating on a small change for that weekend time. We just called and talked to them but they weren’t there until January.

Question. How late were they getting appointments out? Because as part of the supplement, the confirmation form is due Jan. 8th (as best I can tell). Do you remember?

It’s so frustrating that we can’t even call until the 4th!

We have several emails into Alfred somebody from well before break - unanswered.

If I remember this one correctly, emails were not as effective as calling. I would call the morning of the 4th if I were you. Do you have to travel? That is always a good excuse to call. We had it do the pre-screening for voice and did not hear until January. I don’t recall how close to the confirmation date we heard, though.

Yes, we have to travel. About two miles from our front door!

Sounds like a little stroll to campus is your best bet.

Just to clarify for readers who may want more info about UCLA: Pre-screens are required at UCLA for Cello, Clarinet, Flute, French Horn, Piano, Saxophone, Trombone, Trumpet, Voice, Viola, or Violin. The jazz studies program is in a different department–the Ethnomusicology major.

alot of UCLA applicants and students are California residents so ppl live near the audition site. When I applied I received my audition appointment pretty early because I submitted my supplement early.

Well, my son submitted his supplement WAY early. November 28th when it’s due Jan. 8. So I don’t think that’s the reason! And when they confirmed receipt of it (we emailed to check), they pointed out it did not contain an audition confirmation form!!! Which is when S pointed out that he did not yet have an audition. Since then, nothing.

I HATE having to wait till Jan. 4th to call.

D got a “come audition” from NEC the week before Christmas. Curtis emailed us and said they will review the vocal pre screenings by Jan. 15.

My D got invited to a live audition vocal perf -soprano from CCM, Northwesten and USC (email-just before Christmas), Carnegie Melon (recd in snail mail yesterday). The only one we haven’t heard from yet is Indiana.

laladreams, looks like my S and your D may cross paths several times looking at your above list! I emailed Indiana before Christmas and got an email back that we would get the Feb audition date we requested and that we needed to be there both days–but no real confirmation as to day/time of audition. I went ahead and booked flights to take advantage of fare sales–so hopefully we’ll hear from them soon!

great Clarimom, my D is sooooo excited to get back into the audition process, the inactivity around the break has been a bit tedious… We are traveling to CMU on Jan 23, and USC weekend of Feb. 13 (tentative). Since we are in Los Angeles, we are doing the regionals here for CCM and Northwestern. We requested early March for Indiana.

laladreams–looks like our kids will miss each other; we have UCS on Jan 23 and CMU on Jan 30. We’ll be flying somewhere every weekend starting 1/23–so crossing fingers on the weather! We found out yesterday that S is finalist in a competition in Washington DC on 2/20–which was his one weekend without an audition. So, more travel…

Clarimom,
Cograts to your S on the competition! I’m hoping for all our sakes we don’t have to deal with too much weather, like the recent 24" of snow back east. Best of luck to you and your S!!!

My S just heard from Eastman today with an invitation to audition for jazz piano on Feb. 12. We’re ecstatic here!

Jazzkat - Now there’s a Happy New Year! Congrats!

Congrats Jazzkat!

Hello, I would like some advice from anyone at all!

I applied to Mannes, Manhattan SoM, NEC, BoCO, Eastman, SUNY Postdam, SUNY Purchase, and am about to apply to Westminster.

I got a no from Mannes and Manhattan.

I got an audition at NEC for Febv 14.

I am a vocal performance soprano.

When do you think I will hear from the other schools? I have some very urgent medical issues that must be taken care of, but I can’t take care of them until I know when my auditions are. Obviously, surgery is out of the question until all my auditions are through.

Rose - When my daughter submitted her WCC application, the audition date was electronically confirmed. If you are auditioning on campus, there are only two dates left, but luckily they don’t conflict with your NEC audition. However, if you want the Feb 5th one, I wouldn’t drag my feet.

Rose- Eastman reserves the right to wait until two weeks before your audition date. Fortunately, they tend not to wait that long! I don’t know for sure BoCO and Purchase, but I seem to recall that they were on the later end of the notification scale last season. As for SUNY Potsdam (Crane School of Music), you simply go here:
https://secure.potsdam.edu/crane/</a>
and schedule your audition for either Jan. 30th or Feb.27th.
You should get on that right away to ensure the date you want.
If you are really needing to schedule medical procedures, I’d go ahead and call Eastman and BoCO on Monday to see if they can tell you anything now. Purchase is another matter and I’d be surprised if you can get anything out of them as they have traditionally known to be harder to communicate with than other schools.
Weather will definitely be a factor with auditions here in Rochester, as well as in Potsdam and could impact Boston and Purchase as well. Please keep that in mind and allow yourself some extra time on either side of the dates if at all possible to make travel easier.
