Prescreening Results

@Lifeofsolitude: I got the same email saying they would send out notifications on the 25th.

@MatisseGeenty and/or @Lifeofsolitude, is that for UCLA or Juilliard?

Has anyone heard back from Peabody regarding MM Piano pre-screening results?

@tenorissimo I was talking about UCLA.

I made it to UCLA and Peabody! Iā€™m all set!

@Lifeofsolitude
congrats :smiley: me too!

I made it past UCLA!! So happy!

Congrats to everyone too! Iā€™m kind of ticked off because my audition is next Friday. I wish they had given us more time considering the fact that they were late w/ releasing accept/rejects.

did any of you guys get the 2/3 or 2/4 audition date for violins?
i have a northwestern audition scheduled on the same weekend and i donā€™t really want to end up having to send a tape:/

@Lifeofsolitude
i wish we could trade! :stuck_out_tongue:
mine is 2/11
best of luck on your auditions :)

@cali- it is worth calling to see if you can switch. Last year my D needed to change 2 audition dates, and both schools were understanding and switched her to other weekends. I canā€™t speak to your schools (my D didnā€™t apply to either) but I donā€™t think it could hurt to call and ask.

UCLAā€™s audition notification and scheduling were a train wreck a couple of years ago. Sad to see nothing has changed. But it is always worth calling to try to reschedule!

For UCLA I accidentally selected the wrong major when applying so later when scheduling my audition, the dates for my intended major werenā€™t available as options. Iā€™m a musical theater major so it may be a little different, but I called them up that day & after about an hour they had contacted me, officially switched my major & accommodated all my needs for my audition. They were really nice about it! If you have questions or problems with your audition date definitely call them!

UCLA was extraordinarily accommodating to my D a few years ago when she had a scheduling conflictā€¦including setting up a new unscheduled audition date. If you are in contact with a teacher you might notify them as well about your scheduling conflict.

Another thing that bothers me is that I cannot get a pianist here in LA. All of the ones that I know are booked and had I known in advance I could have gotten one. Wellā€¦Iā€™m going to get one from USC then :p

UCLA was Dā€™s best audition last year. They were unbelievably nice. Very warm, welcoming and went out of their way to make everyone feel comfortable. It is a great school. Best of luck!

UCLA was very accommodating when DD auditioned. They had scheduled her when our flight was landing so they switched her to the next day. All we had ot do was call them. Very warm and welcoming audition, too.

OH MY GOD ā€“ I got accepted to audition at UMich!!! As a Music Education (Piano Principal) student!

I had a HORRIBLE audition prescreening tape (I am NOT being modest in any way), and my recording was submitted 4 minutes late anyways! (Though they mentioned that they were extending the priority deadline a few days, Iā€™m not sure if that included more time to submit the recording as well or not ā€“ either way it makes me happy because if I had known they moved the priority deadline back, I would have taken those few more days to practice and get good ā€“ the Waltz I had learned several months earlier, and only started to relearn it for a few hours, the Sinfonia as well, and Schumannā€™s Grade 6 ish Traumerei was a piece I learned a few years back but I picked it anyways hoping that a waltz ā€œdanceā€ counts as a different style than a Traumerei ā€“ I had no sonata prepared).

For anyone that might want to see my recording, here it is. Hopefully someone will find use of it to help them judge where they are!

And if anyone listens to itā€¦ I would really like to know what you think ā€“ did I get accepted because, though my recording was horrible, they could tell that I did have sufficient skill? Or perhaps it was so horrible that maybe they considered that I simply do better in-person? Or something else?

Oh dear godā€¦

When is your audition? You should be practicing your butt off till then. And for now, go through some of those very awkward sections with the tricky fingering and drill it WITH A METRONOME! Just to be honest.

And you might do well to find a high-level teacher who can give you a handful of lessons for an abbreviated audition prep. Your teacher right now obviously has not been doing that.

You do have musicality. It definitely comes through even though that was not technically at an impressive level.

I am being frank because I do think there is a chance for you to actually be accepted. But itā€™s going to take more work than you have EVER put into piano combined. You CAN do this. Good luck! :)
