@NaariyalAmma sending your D good vibes for her prescreening results! Same situation on this end. We are all on edge with the same anticipation!
Yes, on edge here too! Especially as S’s non-music friends just got their EA and ED decisions and there is much crowing with excitement all around!
Oy @akapiratequeen I remember my S’s high school even had a day in Spring where all the kids wore garb from their intended college and he was the only one who didn’t know
@akapiratequeen - same here… makes me wonder why music schools don’t offer EA/ED options.
It would be so nice for our young musicians to be able to zero in on their top choice school and be done with it all if they made it. It would also help schools pick the talent they’re looking for and lock them in early rather than go through the musical chairs (pun unintended… sigh) game later on in April/May…
Same here @akapiratequeen - my S goes to a magnet high school (with large # of ‘overachievers’) and all his non-music major friends are all hearing this week for ED/EA. Now I will admit, we did get an acceptance last night from Miami (Ohio) that S got in the university, but the music major is contingent on his audition next month. Hoping to have one down soon - but, yes, I really wish they could do ED/EA at their top choices (although S’s top choice is in Canada so no ED/EA there).
Hi @akapiratequeen - I believe NU does offer EA or ED, but we only learned that from an undergrad we met on our visit there. For our family, and probably for many families, it was important to have all of the financial information available from the various schools, as that weighed heavily into the final decision.
@bouyant, a few other places (Lawrence?) offer ea/ed in music—but like you, we needed to wait and see the range of offers. Still hard for S though. He’s generally really zen, far more than I am, but he was a bit worried this morning.
@Lendlees Congrats on your S’s acceptance — let’s celebrate everywhere we can! My S is waiting to hear from berklee EA so on pins and needles…could be any time but could also be a month from now! I’m trying to get him to focus on other things, then secretly heading over to CC to do my own worrying.
Congratulations @Lendlees! Since we are Canadian, my D is also applying to 4 Canadian and 1 U.S music school. The U.S school (Oberlin Conservatory) is her dream school. She has already been accepted into 2 Canadian non music schools for concurrent education (BA with advanced entry into teacher’s college in 5 years) but she has her heart set on vocal music performance. Let’s see what happens…
@NaariyalAmma - that’s so funny that your D wants a US school, when my S’s dream school is McGill! Congrats that she’s at least got some back up choices (that’s how we view the Miami acceptance - until audition results) Wishing her luck!
@Lendlees my D is applying to McGill as one of her Canadian schools. It is her second choice after Oberlin!
Just to confirm for future readers: A student can be accepted ED at Northwestern for Bienen. It involves a very early audition date. We’ve known people both accepted and denied ED there.
@buoyant and others: Northwestern is need blind and “no loans”. But then the trick becomes does NU agree with you as to what your EFC should be?
@momzhood thanks for the ED info. Seems like very few schools offer EA/ED options for music programs. Maybe it is due to the intense effort required to go through the prescreening material and complete auditions as early as October / November … Oh well…
@momzhood, the way it works is the “no loan school” will match the EFC calculated by FAFSA and will reach that number by not including loans and/or work study.
@HereWeGoAgain2018, @AsMother and @Lendlees I am grateful to let you know that your good vibes and best wishes worked! My D received confirmation of being granted a live audition at Oberlin Conservatory!
@NaariyalAmma congratulations!!! Fantastic news!
Congrats @NaariyalAmma! Hopefully we will see you up in Montreal in March…Best of luck to your D.
@NaariyalAmma , that’s fantastic! Now you’ll be able to get a little sleep Congratulations to your daughter.
I was just thinking today (reading what you and others are going through right now) how grateful I was last year that Berklee graced us with a notification of my son’s Early Decision acceptance last year BEFORE the holidays…it made for a much more peaceful and festive Christmas for us. I don’t know if I could have waited any longer!
Congrats @NaariyalAmma! Wishing your D a wonderful audition. Please feel free to PM or ask me any questions regarding Oberlin. My D is a sophomore in vocal performance.
