My kid is in the 7th grade and she recently took the SAT twice. I understand that her scores will be removed unless she asks to preserve her scores permanently. We don't know if her scores will help her in her college application or anything. Should she preserve her scores? If so, which one or should she preserve both? Any advice will be very much appreciated.
Her November 2010 scores are: 610 CR, 700 M, 600 W - Total 1910
Her December 2010 scores are: 650 CR, 690 M, 590 W - Total 1930

Honestly, I feel like your kid will get much better. At this rate, she’ll have a 2400 by the time she’s a senior! I do not think those scores will help that much, especially at a highly selective school.

My biggest advice is for her to study a little at a time, and just all in one big push. And keep having her learn vocabulary! It won’t only help for the test, but it will help in school and everyday reading too.

I wouldn’t preserve. She can do MUCH, much better. Does your daughter qualify for SET?

Wow in 7th grade I got a 1500 and now my scores are competitive for even the Ivies. I can’t imagine how good you daughters scores will be! I wouldn’t keep them, those will only hold her back when she’s a senior. I see her doing much, much better.

raiderade, yes, it’s pure luck because 700 is the absolute minimum for SET. Anyway, thanks for the advice.

cutiepie93 and truzzi182, thanks for the advice!

I don’t think it’s worth it to preserve them… They really won’t mean much in the end, since I’m sure your child will do much better when she takes them again in HS. I let my 2100 from 8th grade disappear, though that might’ve just been negligence on my part.

Random thought about SET: If you don’t live close to Baltimore, going down for the induction ceremony is probably not worth it. I didn’t go and they sent me this lame looking medal in the mail?

of course! and i made a little mistake: i meant she should NOT just study all in one big push haha

quickster94, we live in Hong Kong :)

I would not preserve the score. My daughter took SAT in the 7th grade and got 1900 (66 CR, 62 Math and 62 Writing). Without any prep, she took PSAT this year (sophomore), she got 200 (64, 68, 68). I took a look of her math sections. She missed 4 and all were careless mistakes. I would think with some prep, she could do better.

If you choose to preserve the scores and send them to colleges, I expect that they wouldn’t care too much about them since 5 years would have passed since your daughter took those two administrations. If I were you, I would choose not to preserve them (it saves money, too!).
