President Bush to Speak at Furman

Just announced.

First time in school's 182 year history that a current Prez speaks at commencement

This year Obama, Huckabee and both Clintons also visited there

I actually had to settle my D down on this one ... she is not a Bush fan & felt his choice was an endorsement of his policies. Ah, youth! After our discussion, she realizes that having the President at your college is a HUGE honor. The buzz on campus is that McCain is considering a VP who is a Furman grad, thus Bush's presence. I don't know whether or not it's true. If so, it will be good publicity.

We'll be at graduation this year and what an amazing event! I am wondering, however, if it will change the venue, number of allowed family attendees, certainly security measures will change, etc... I'll post whatever they tell us parents of a senior gradutaing, just FYI.

And Kelsmom, I'm glad you were able to convince your daughter that it is the office of president that carries the clout and represents an honor to Furman.

Iflyjets, how exciting for you & your family to have a senior this year! I have to admit, though, that I am glad we will be moving our D out before the Secret Service moves in to secure the campus! :)

I do have concerns, kelsmom, about how this will complicate moving her boxes of stuff out of her room on Friday and Saturday. I think housing in North Campus will be far enough away from any activity that we should be fine. My concern is going on and off campus on Saturday, such as going to and from our hotel and to restaurants. We had not planned on dining at the DH, but, now we may have to change our dining plans.

Still, it was going to be a memorable day for us, and now it will be even more so!
