President of State Senate as a reference

I was waitlisted, so my application is still alive at Cornell. The president of my state's senate is from my town, knows me OK, and will speak at my FFA chapter's banquet next saturday. Should i ask him for a reccomendation, or at least ask him to call Cornell. Would it help my application or just look cheesy?

He's also running for the democratic nomination for the U.S. senate race, and he'll probably get it. the other guy, the state auditor, recently got caught cheating on his wife

Probably won't help much.
