I am one of three presidents of the Art Club at my school. We decided not to denote offices for each of us but instead to all be presidents. The club advisor was totally cool with this.

I don't want to lie on my apps, but I would really like to just put President and not Co-President on my application, especially since I already marked that I am the Co-Captain of my sport. I feel like having two "Co"s on there is negative.

Am I being petty and stupid?

Also, we are not applying to any of the same schools, except ONE, which happens to be on the common app so I can't edit it just for that one school. Will it raise red flags to see two applicants from the same school both marking President of the Art Club?

Just put president. As long as your club advisor is totally cool, I doubt that there is a likelihood to even verify your position with Art Club, but assuming that you are putting valuable effort into Art Club as a leader, president should be ok. Perhaps for the same school, put Co president.

I don't think I can edit the common app, it has to be sent exactly the same to each school.

If they were to call to verify, the teacher would say that yes, we are both presidents. I just feel bad making them go out of their way, and I worry they might reject me without even checking, just assuming I'm lying.

Well, I have an idea. For the school that you are all applying to, use the college's app rather than the common APP. Doing one app should not be a problem should it?

As your sn suggests, this seems to be a semiserious matter :)

I have the same situation with our speech team, there are three captains. I'm just putting captain as well. I am sure it will be fine, I doubt that they will even check on it and you ARE a president and take a significant leadership role. So, relax : )

Telling the truth matters; you are co-president. I do not see it as a negative; msot schools no longer have single captains of teams, and many organizations (such as PTAs) often have co-presidents. Having the title denotes leadership.

If you shared the position with two other students, then you are a Co-President. Being a Co-President doesn't mean that you worked less. Actually, it shows that you are able to work well with others.

Throughout your life, you will be faced with grey areas.....and it will be your choice whether to "fudge" to make yourself look better or to just be 100% truthful.

The choice is yours, but I think in the long run, it is easier to just be 100% truthful. You don't have to cover your tracks, and what goes around, comes around.

It is more truthful, and hopefully that good karma will come around and get me admitted.

Thanks for all your help, guys.

My other presidents both put "president", so I'm a little irked, but I think I did the right thing. Maybe it'll come back to get them later. Rrr.

I agree with the other moms. :) You did the right thing. I also agree that co-pres (or co-captain) looks no worse than just pres, as it indicates that you can work as a team. That is a good thing!
It's not a negative in any way.
