I just got an email today from Bucknell inviting me to apply to the Presidential Fellows Program. I know what the program is, so I guess what I’m asking is, does this mean anything in terms of admission?

I got one too. It said that she doesn’t have any say in admissions, but I think we can assume things are looking good if our apps were strong enough to get attention from the program.

Aww, poo. My D didn’t mention an email. :(

Congrats to both of you! :)

I got one too! I mean it has to mean SOMETHING because I don’t think they’d ask every applicant to apply… I keep telling myself that anyway :p

Congratulations for getting the request for the presidential scholarship app!! Sounds like a DEFINITE admit anyways! Just curious, did anyone who got the email to apply for pres. app. apply for FA? I noticed on their website that the pres. schol. were given “mostly” for need (plus merit of course), but that 15-20 would be given for merit alone. So far no email requesting pres. app. for my S, but he did get an email from Bucknell a few days ago just “checking in” etc.etc…

Just curious, how many Presidential Fellowship invites were there? What % are given it? Anyone know?

From what I have been able to find out - I think they ask the top 3 - 4 % of applicants to apply. Then they award the fellowship to around 80 students, hoping for a yield of 25.

Do you think we will hear about the Fellowship at the same time as our online decisions? I imagine that, if were to get invited to the program, information would be sent out by mail with the admissions decision, but I’m curious if the portal would tell us anything.

When my D got one years ago it was a line in her Financial Aid letter she got in the mail. Not sure if the portal they are using now will display Financial Aid

Hi all. My D just got her acceptance to Bucknell but there was no notice about her Bucknell Fellows application either way. I also see no Financial Aid info available on the portal, so mayve it will come in the mailed package. Any leads?

@DQueenDad, I didn’t get any notice either. According to nyroch, it will be in the mail!

@nyroch, did your daughter choose to attend Bucknell? and if so, how did she like the program?

Yes she did attend and she loved the program. Started doing paid research as soon as she walked on campus. The research project she worked on her first two years was not in her major but she loved working on something different and the experience was invaluable when she applied for grad school. For any of those accepted into the program there is usually a special reception during the accepted student open house.

Received un-official word that my D will be offered a Presidential Fellowship. Amazing reward for the hard work and joy she puts into life. We are all so proud of her.

Best of luck to each of you so inclined to pursue this honor. Chase your dreams…

I was offered the fellowship as well! It was such a good feeling. Especially because it makes Bucknell financially possible for me. Congratulations to your daughter!

@nyroch, thanks for your information! I’ll be attending the reception in a few weeks.

How did you find out that you got the fellowship? I was invited to apply, but I never found out if I actually got it…

My son received a mailing from Bucknell yesterday (acceptance letter, info. about open house, etc.). In the packet was a letter with the financial aid info. And on this was listed that he received the Presidential Fellowship. Also included was an invitation to a special breakfast on the morning of the Accepted Students day to meet other students, professors, and learn more about the program. They also said that more information about the program would be mailed within the next 10 days. Hope this helps!

Thank you! I received my acceptance letter in the mail yesterday, but there was no information about the fellowship. I did not apply for financial aid, so hopefully I will find out about it soon.

nyroch - Do you know if it is possible to study abroad if you have the Presidential Fellowship? I was just curious how that would work if you are supposed to be working with a professor on campus. Thanks!!

benreb - My guess is it would be fine since I would doubt they would want you to miss that opportunity if it was something you wanted to do but that question would best be answered by Dr Koutsoliotas, the program director. My D did not go abroad but there were months where she worked with the professor more hours then others due to other commitments and there was no problem.

Thanks for the fast response. My son just sent her an email asking this question. I will post the answer here when he gets a reply in case others are wondering the same thing.

If you don’t mind my asking - are you from Rochester? I am only curious because I live in one of the suburbs.
