Northeastern sent me a notice saying that I was chosen to be a Presidential Global Scholar--does that just mean that I get scholarship money to travel abroad and work on a co-op if I want to in the future? Did a lot of people get this?

According to this([Presidential Global Scholars Program](http://www.northeastern.edu/globalscholars/program.html)) page, 200 people receive it, and you receive a $6000 scholarship to fund an international co-op (presumably to pay for housing/food/plane tickets). One thing I do find interesting is that the program seems to be open by application only.

“One thing I do find interesting is that the program seems to be open by application only.”

hmmm, that’s weird then since I didn’t apply for anything and I’m not enrolled yet.

They mentioned this at the admitted students day-first in the general portion covering international opportunities where they said there was a scholarship you could apply for to help cover the cost of international studies. Later at the Honors Program presentation they alluded to watching your mail this week for something-and this was that something. You have been selected to already receive this scholarship-you just need to apply for it after you secure an international co-op in typically your third or fourth year of school. So if you chose to attend NEU and want an international co-op and can find one the school will subsidize you up to $6,000.

It is a great opportunity if that is something you would like to do. They have already picked you as someone they would like to encourage to go overseas on a co-op and will help you to make it happen by removing some if not all of the financial hurdles.

You don’t have to study overseas, heck you may not even go to NEU, but it’s something is addition they want to make available to try and get you to go there!

My D also got it unsolicited. She was admitted into the honors program with an undeclared major and hasn’t decided where she wants to go to school yet. My feeling is that they’ve sent these letters as a sweetener to admitted students who haven’t committed to NEU yet. It sounds like a great opportunity if one wants to go to NEU! Not sure it will have any effect on my D.

I agree. He already committed after visiting last Saturday so this is just another nice part of going. :)

He is also undeclared in Honors-if you where there Saturday we must have crossed paths.

I received the letter today. I too am in honors but CBA! Not undecided or international. Love this idea!

Is the Presidential Global Scholarship something that you can apply for later on perhaps in your sophomore year or is it something that they only consider giving you for before you accept?

I got the impression Saturday that it was something anyone could apply to-I think they may have decided to offer them in advance perhaps to Honors Program students?

Just got my letter for this today! So exciting : D This is really nice of them - and rather smart ha now I really have to attend : )

Pepper03-- we went to the admitted students day back in Feb. We just got back from Smith College’s admitted students’ day and are going to Tufts next week. I think it’s down to NEU and these 2 other schools. It is such a hard decision to make! D loved Smith but it isn’t in Boston, but she’s still talking about NEU.

I got one today too. I’m doing architecture and honors. You definitely didn’t have to apply separately for it because I hadn’t even heard of it before. Also it isn’t just for people who haven’t committed yet because I paid back in December haha.

I got one too, but I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. Most pharmacy majors don’t have the opportunity to do international co-ops anyways, so it doesn’t really matter.

You can definitely apply for it later on even if you didn’t get this pre-selection thing. This is probably just so that people realize there is a scholarship early on, and therefore maybe more people will try to do international co-ops (which Northeastern is currently trying to promote).

My S received it yesterday. Did a lot of people get it this year? Is it easy to find international co-ops in CS?

Remember you need a 3.5 GPA
