I sent off my Presidential Nomination to USAFA aabout 2 weeks ago. Today I recieved a small postcard from the academy in the mail that stated the following:

“We have recieved a nomination for you from the following person/category:
Presidential
You are now an Official Candidate”

Is this saying that I recieved a presidential nomination? I thought that was an extremely quick respnose, and quite frankly did not see myself getting this nomination. Has anyone else received a postcard similar to this.

You are eligible for that nomination. If you recieve no other nominations the Academy can slot you against it. Yes it means you have a nomination, but you should still make an effort to obtain you MOC nominations. If you complete your entire package (DoDMerb, SAT's, Letter of Rec's, CFA, Essay, etc) and your file changes to complete you may see an appointment as early as November.

I'm a little confused about the Presidential nomination category. Did you just have to send the Academy the information that's on the sample letter? Or are there other things that I'm missing?

Yes complete the letter as outlined on the USAFA website and if you are eligible it will be added. I think you may need a copy of retirement orders or something similar. I believe potter needed those from her mom and I. Had to go dig them out of the safe.

If you have a parent on active duty, their personnel office will be able to provide them a certified copy of their statement of service. This Statement of Service was the only required item DS needed besides filling out the appilcation.

DS is also correct that you need to go after ALL available nominations (Both of your senators, your MOC, and a vice presidential, just to name the standard ones). While every military dependent is OFFERED a Presidential nomination, only 100 are ACCEPTED by each Academy each year. LOTS of kids are eligible; don't rely on this being your nomination source...
