Presidential Preview Weekend for Presidential and Trustee scholarships?

I just received a letter from Loyola Marymount saying that I was selected from the Arrupe scholars to be eligible for the Presidential and Trustee scholarships. It then talks about the Presidential Preview Weekend and the interview. Does anybody know any information about this? Does this mean that I'm invited for the preview weekend and that it's mandatory for the scholarship consideration? I live in PA, so it's a long flight and it's pretty expensive to fly all the way out there. Thanks, any info would be appreciated! (I already looked on the website, it doesn't really detail much at all)

Yes, I believe you would have to attend to be considered for the scholarship. There are 100 students attending, 10 will receive the full ride and 20 will receive full tuition. So your odds are 10% and 20% or 30% overall. Not bad, considering 10,000 kids applied. It is possible they will pay for some of the out-of-pocket costs - you will probably find that out in the next communication.

Has anyone else received a letter with an invitation to the Presidential Preview Weekend? If so, what are the dates?

Feb. 27th - can’t remember when you come and go, but around there.

Could anyone please let me know whether there were any international students (who lived abroad) receiving an invitation to the Presidential Preview Weekend? Thank you very much.

So how was the weekend? Did anyone attend?

the weekend was very informative there were around 70 of us there…a lot of really interesting people. the classes i went to really taught me alot about the lmu experience (the drama class i visited was for non majors and seemed a little low intensity, which was dissapointing. i also visited society and its discontents, which was an honors core class and very fascinating;there was a lot of discussion and there were only about 7 students in the class) lmu has a gorgeous campus and the faculty and staff were all really warm and welcoming. my host, an honors student and fine arts major, was really chill and welcoming as well. i enjoyed lmu and my only complaint would be the lack of diversity among the presidential scholars and the fact that there is nothing really within walking distance of the campus. but parking is free!

Thanks for the update! When did they tell you they will notify winners?

they said they will make the scholarship decisions within the next few weeks…crossing my fingers!!
