presidential research scholar

Does anyone know anything about this program at Cornell? Is it an honor or is it given out frequently?

My daughter got a letter saying that she was chosen for this program which we knew nothing about. It came on a Friday, after a long week of school, and she just said, "I don't want to do any more research," and threw it on the table.

I've browsed the brochure and it looks like they expect 8-10 hours of research a week. That sounds like a lot of time to me. Does anyone know about this?

It's a big honor. Too bad your daughter doesn't want to do any more research.

Wow, snajean! If this doesn't convince your daughter to go to Cornell, nothing will.

I know, I know. If it were my decision, I wouldn't pass on Cornell. Maybe it's like the actress on opening night at Broadway with a huge case of stage fright. But I sense that she is afraid of leaving home more than she ever dreamed.

i am a presidential research scholar....fire away w. questions

bball87,

You've answered questions I've had before, it's good to have you back on board.

So, do you have trouble fitting in the 6-10 hours of research a week? Did you have trouble finding a Mentor with which to work? And the 50 or so CPRS students, are you a close bunch or do you meet and get the heck out of there as quick as you can? My daughter loves shows like MTV's Real World and clothes from JCrew. Will she be an oddball compared to the other female researchers?

I'm assuming you like Cornell from past posts, but do you like the CPRS program? Thanks
