DS20 got nominated as US Presidential Scholar candidate (1 among 5300). Is this a big deal to notify prospective colleges? Or we need to notify only if he becomes the scholar (only 161 students become scholars, just 2 from each state, a boy and a girl). So it is a long shot!!
Wondering this as well. Just having the same discussion with my son.
What generated the nomination? A quick read of the web site seems to show it’s based on SAT scores. If true, the school will see the scores and a nomination based on them doesn’t add much.
It wouldn’t hurt to send, but I’m not sure it helps much.
Colleges don’t pay attention to it as it’s mostly SAT/ACT based, they already have those scores and you don’t get selected until admission cycle is over. As far as non SAT based nominations go, often kids of parents with good relations with guidance counselors/NGO get nominated so just nomination has little weight. There is no scholarship money involved either.
However, no harm in mentioning it.
Yes. It is based on ACT in my son’s case. Thanks for the comments. I think there is no need to mention these since it is not adding much value. Thanks.
