Presidential Scholar Nomination

Does anyone know the typical ACT and SAT scores needed to be nominated as a potential presidential scholar? I know they're quite high, but they also are based on the state from which you come from. So in a state like mine, Arkansas, the average number is typically lower--or it normally is for things like the PSAT.

Can someone provide me with this information?

You need a 1600 CR/M in 1 sitting (not superscored) or a 36 ACT (has to be 36/36/36/36)

The SAT score is converted to a 144 point scale (since ACT is out of 144). However, the cutoff may be a bit lower in states such as Montana or New Mexico, where it may be say 142 or 141. If you get a 1600 or 36/36/36/36 I believe you automatically qualify. For Arkansas, I’d imagine the cutoff is still around 142, maybe 141-143.

well that is slightly disappointing… I thought they care much more about extracurricular activities and GPA than perfect SAT score. Don’t they take those into account too?

"The U.S. Department of Education then looks at test records for the top 30 males and top 30 females in each of the states/jurisdictions. For each examinee, the SAT score is converted to the ACT Sum of Scores, according to a concordance table. Each individual examinee’s highest test score (in a single test administration ) is identified, and duplicates and/or lower scores are dropped.

The combined file of scores from the top male examinees and top female examinees are then ranked from high to low in each state. The scores associated with the top 20 male examinees and top 20 female examinees are used to identify the candidates in each state. When ties occur in the cut off score, more than 20 persons of that gender are selected in that state."

@Daina, they definitely do, including essays, but the SAT/ACT score is the requirement just to become a candidate. And as CRAcollege said, they take the top 20 male and female, each, highest scorers, or ties if more than 20 male/female students scored a perfect 1600.

You need the SAT/ACT score to qualify…and the GPA and EC’s to win.

is there any such program for internationals?
