When is the presidential scholar application? How come I haven't seen a single person put that on their apps yet?

What is that?

In my opinion, it's the highest scholastic honor for a high school student. Correct me if I'm wrong, but i heard only people who score 1600 (old sat), 2400 (new sat) and a 36 (act) get invited to apply, otherwise it is very difficult to get the award.

it's like the 10 SAT/ACT scorers in each state are nominated. i think in most states this comes out to a 1600/36. btw, it must be in one sitting.

I don't think it has anything to do with SATs...

35/36 ACT, depending on the state; about 2370-2400 SAT, again depending on the state. The real headache is doing the essays, etc., that take you to semifinalist level. If you make semifinalist, you are, rightly or wrongly, considered cream of the graduating crop in your state. The program also assures that both male and female seniors are represented.

Do you have to do both the SAT and ACT?

No, you don't. Just make sure when you register with either that you allow them to share your test scores with outside entities.

According to their website, they won't be including the writing component of either the ACT or SAT in their criteria.

Correct. 1570-1600 SAT.

I think it's only for seniors.

Schools can figure out who is a likely nominee. Semifinalist is more important, but it comes out too late in the game.

So do they announce the results in the Spring?

Wow, I'm surprised I never heard of something like that. Too bad it's based on a stupid test, though.

So would a 35/1540 not do it? Im not sure I understand all this.

My magnet school had both the male and female winner for the state of Michigan last year, very prestigious award.

Female winner is at Michigan State now (didn't get into any of the schools she wanted), male winner is attending the University of Michigan.

I agree with mathwiz

"Female winner is at Michigan State now (didn't get into any of the schools she wanted), male winner is attending the University of Michigan."

I'm surprised. They must have been pretty typical applicant, then.

Presidential Scholar is a big deal.....

IndianHill_OH, if you are in a low-scoring state, 35 will get you a nomination. 1540 will not get you nominated. Don't think of a 35/1540 combo. You only need one or the other.
