Presidential Scholar

I took the ACT. When I registered, I said I didn't want to send a score report to my high school (not sure why I did this). Did I have to send it to be nominated as a President Scholar?

Your school is supposed to guess your score?

^ Well its no fun if they don’t…

I really don’t understand the question.

Does the school nominate me? Or, is it the ACT company that forwards the top scorers to the program?

I don’t appreciate your sarcasm, MIT 012.

If it’s a college, then you need to request a score report from ACT. I’m pretty sure you can do that any time after the score is available.

Procrastination, relax.

procrast, everything is done automatically. i didnt even know about the program until i got something in the mail.

yes, you do need to release your scores in order to be nominated. contact the act peoplez and let them know to release your scores.

zzzboy: if I’ve been getting college mail saying that ACT provided the info, does this mean my scores have been released?

^Probably not in the way you’re thinking. I doubt the college files the ACT scores of students who haven’t even applied.

jbvirtuoso you don’t understand, this has nothing to do with a specific college, but a scholarship program.

hmm

if youre getting college mail, then thats a pretty clear sign you released your ACT scores. i didnt take the ACT, but i would imagine that its the same.

colleges only contact you through standardized tests that youve taken. its a pretty clear bubble when you take the test that says not to release the scores (i think thats how it was…i remember there was one on the PSAT).

i would think sending a score report to your high school is different.

i would try to contact someone from the ACT to make sure everythings OK. i wouldnt know where to begin to get the pres scholar app if my scores werent automaticaaly sent.

I do not think Presidential Scholar nomination are done by/with ACT in my state. Only SAT

no, its done by both. wikipedia and the website confirm.

oh btw i got the app but didnt apply if it matters. so i cant really answer any more questions if youz got any.

My earlier post was literally an answer couched in the Socratic method.

Your school turns in the nomination for Presidential Scholar. If your
ACT did not have your school listed or was not explictly allowed to
be reported, your school cannot “guess” your score. You need to address
this with.

you seem tightly wound for someone this early in the year. Hope you
learn to relax and let it flow. Tightly wound people may tend to come
across not so cool on their essays.

I heard the last testing date was October to be nominated, so you have plenty of time before you hear from the program. If you score high on the ACT/SAT you are automatically considered.

Wait, for SAT they only consider CR and M scores, right?

yes CR+M only for the initial candidate list

Wait I am SO confused by this.

I didn’t even know this program existed until I started researching it like 30 minutes ago…

Uhmmm I think I got some certificate in the mail that said the words “Presidential Scholar”; what does this mean? It was in like… August or September. I’ll see if I can find it. I don’t remember there being an app, though.

Also, MIT 012 said in this thread that schools have to nominate you, but then chinnychinchang said that it was automatic (done through testing companies.) Sooo…?

ALSO, what is the benefit of it? I mean, I know there’s a conference and what not. No money, though, right? Is it worthwhile to apply? I think the all-expenses-paid trip to the White House would be pretty cool…

edit: JK the certificate I got wasn’t Presidential Scholar; it was President’s Education something something something and everyone got it. UHM. So we’re back to my “how do I apply / do I have to ask my GC for a nomination” stage…
