Presidential Scholar

How much would being a presidential scholar help in being accepted to Princeton? Thanks!

^ i’m pretty sure you usually get this award after decisions come out

right unless you’re taking a GAP year, it will do you no good-

my friend is one and he is at Princeton now, but i dont think that there is any correlation between winning the award and getting in.

The things that help you get awarded Presidental Scholar (largely SAT scores, and then secondarily extracurriculars, if I’m not mistaken) will certainly aide you in getting in, but you won’t actually know whether you’re a Scholar until after decisions so…

Xatu, guess what you mean to ask is how much being on the presidential
scholar candidate list helps ( the candidate list comes out in late January)
in time for admissions decisions. The actual scholar announcement comes too
late to help with admissions (unless one is waitlisted).

It seems to help considerably at H not so at P unless you get on the list
due to short listing by the NFAA (Arts scholar) in which case your chances
at P would rise dramatically. Princeton loves artistic achievement.

The requisite for Presidential Scholar is for most states 2400 SAT/36 ACT. If you have either score they know you are a candidate, the unknown being what importance they give to it. S did, was waitlisted, accepted first day off waitlist, $0 FA, chose not to attend.

ok I’m gonna tell you something different from how everyone else is suggesting it doesn’t play much of a role:

 1. the psp candidate list will be out in time for college apps, so send that as 1 of your email updates about new achievements
 2. The psp semifinalist list will come out pretty much right before colleges send out their decisions, so because of the timing I don’t think this will play too much of a role in admissions unless you’re borderline. However, there is the possibility of being waitlisted, so then I think this would definitely help you. After you’ve qualified as a candidate, you may fill out a form listing your activities and other achievements if you want to participate in the program (kind of similar to National Merit) so there’s no way people can argue PSP Semifinals and Finals are only based on test scores.
 3. The list of finalists definitely won’t be out in time for the normal admissions notification date, but if you can advance to this level, you’ve probably gotten into your top-choice anyway. (so congrats) If that’s not the case and you have been waitlisted, you definitely want to send this information out.
