Presidential Scholars Day

Son received the Presidential Scholarship and was told he would be invited for a Presidential Scholars Day.

Has anyone else attended this program in the past?

We have never been to Auburn and hope we will be able to get a tour at this time.

Also, do they only allow one parent to attend the event, or can both parents attend?

Hello Montegut…For some reason I thought I had seen your above post before, but I guess not. Anyway, both my husband and I attended the Presidential Scholars day with our son about a month ago. (allowed 2 guests) We had never been to Auburn. It is definitely a strong possibility that our son will attend there. He liked it a lot, as did we. They really treated us to a wonderful day! It was very informative and we really met some cool people who made us feel that our son would be in great hands and have some nice opportunities in the honors program. We really liked the campus and what I have heard about Auburn being a friendly campus was so true. We’ve also been to GT, UGA and Clemson for general campus visits and also “scholars” visits. Village dorms were amazing. (not like my dorm back at Michigan State a bunch of years ago haha)

I didn’t realize there was another Presidential Scholar Day already. Are you sure it wasn’t a War Eagle or Talons day?

Either way, glad you liked your visit. We have never been, but the staff is always so helpful on the phone. We are really looking forward to visiting the campus and learning more about the programs offered.

Montegut

We are going to visit Jan 15, the day before Capstone day at Bama…One last visit to each school…lol

Hey Montegut, No it was definitely Presidential Scholars Day. Son recieved full OOS tuition, $1,500 technology allowance for freshman year, $4,000 stipend for study abroad and automatic admission into honors. A friend of his was there for the same. Maybe it depends on when you originally applied as to when you go. Enjoy your visit and best of luck!

montegut, it was a pres scholars day, my son didnt respond in time for the nov one, but got an email saying: (you may want to call to get on list)
We regret to inform you that our November 16th date is
completely filled. We would love to have you join us on February 15th
for our second Presidential Scholars Day. You’ll be receiving a formal
invitation in the mail as well as an email invitation.

We look forward to meeting you then!

Thanks for the heads up about the Presidential Scholars Day maybe filling up. Son did not qualify for Presidential Scholar until the October SAT, so probably why not invited for the November event. We are counting on attending the February event, as it’s during a school break, so son will not have to miss school. Haven’t gotten our invite yet, but will call next week if still haven’t gotten it. Got my hotel reservations at the Fairfield already. Hope to see y’all there, too!

There is also a Presidential Scholar’s Day in February, 2010. Yesterday my daughter received an application for the Elite Scholarships and was told in the email that if she is a finalist for an Elite Scholarship she will be invited to Auburn on February 14 for interviews, the day before the Presidential Scholars Day on February 15.

Just wanted to say that you don’t have to attend. I am a Presidential Scholars day and I didn’t attend, however I took a seperate honors tour during orientation.

proud_mom Whoa!! Congrats! Best of luck to your daughter. :)

My daughter applied to Auburn two weeks ago and got accepted yesterday. She also received an e-mail stating that she is a semi-finalist for the Elite Scholarship. ($10,000-$32,000 ON TOP of the Presidential) I was told in an e-mail from Auburn last summer that she should also get the Presidential Scholarship which is for full tuition for non-residents. We have not officially received anything about this from Auburn, however. When will they notify recipients? Also, I believe that if you are a Presidential Scholar, then you are guaranteed admittance into the Honors College? Preferred housing also comes with it, but how early would one have to send in a deposit to get into Talon at the Villages? Also we are from Minnesota and have not visited Auburn. If she is a finalist for the Elite, she will have to go for an interview, and if not, would it still be wise to attend Presidential Scholar’s Day in February? (Assuming she gets the Presidential)

What is the relationship, if any, between the Presidential Scholar and National Merit Scholar?

The Presidential is Auburn’s own scholarhip. It is for OOS students having a 3.75+ GPA and a 33+ ACT. There is no relationship between the two.

from auburn.edu

Academic Presidential Scholars receive non-resident tuition, currently valued at $77,808 over four years ($19,452 per year); a $1,500 technology allowance in the first fall semester; and the Auburn Academic Guarantee. The Auburn Academic Guarantee includes automatic admission to the Honors College and an enrichment experience valued at $4,000 one semester after the second year.

National Merit Finalists, National Achievement Finalists, and National Hispanic Scholars with a minimum 3.0 high school GPA automatically receive:

Spirit of Auburn (residents) or Academic (non-residents) Presidential Scholarship
Tuition for four years, currently valued at $27,888 ($6,972 per year) for residents and $77,808 ($19,452 per year) for non-residents
$1,500 technology allowance in the first fall semester

Auburn Academic Guarantee
- Automatic admission to the Honors College

- Enrichment experience valued at $4,000 one semester after the second year

On-campus housing allowance for four years, currently valued at $17,600 ($4,400 per year)

University stipend for four years at $4,000 to $8,000 ($1,000 to $2,000 per year), depending on eligibility as determined by National Merit Scholarship Corporation and/or financial need as determined through completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) .

When does Aubrn notify recipients of the Presidential? Can we safely assume that my daughter will get this scholarship? She meets the criteria and is a semi-finalist for the Elite, but no mention of the Presidential.

Thanks Granny. That’s great info.

Your daughter will probably receive an award for the Presidential scholarship soon. It will come in a separate letter with a certificate. My daughter didn’t receive her certificate with her acceptance letter, that came a little later.

Thank you feedback, my daughter is hoping she will become a finalist, but who knows - I know there are a lot of qualified seniors.

“The Presidential is Auburn’s own scholarhip. It is for OOS students having a 3.75+ GPA and a 33+ ACT. There is no relationship between the two.”

Really? I could’ve sworn you needed a 3.5.

Maybe Auburn raised their standards this past year?

3.5 was for a lesser scholarship. It got you instate tuition, I believe.

Proud Mom,
You were right-my daughter did get the Presidential Scholarship award in the mail today. I guess I’m now a Proud Dad-LOL. We now have to decide if we should book tickets to come and visit on February 15th. She is a semi-finalist for the Elite Scholarship, but I’m not planning on that. It would be a great bonus if it happens. We haven’t visited Auburn and it may be wise to do it now before spring. Also, plane tickets will probably only get more expensive the closer it gets to February.
