Presidential Scholars (high ACT/SAT)

I see now that the YoungArts program does not cater to my skills.

i’m a presidential scholar this year and my SAT was a mere 2350 (800/800/750).
not sure if it’s already been established, but my appallingly low score on the writing section pretty much confirms that writing is not considered. :)

That’s an understatement if I ever saw one.

are an equal number of ACT/ SAT students selected? I noticed that for a big state such as Pennsylvania, there were only 6 perfect scores (142-144) on the ACT and I’m assuming that there were many more perfect or near-perfect scores for the SAT since the ACT isn’t a very popular test outside of the midwest.

hang on…what is Presidential Scholars?

Does it look good on college apps?

Can you use a superscore to get the 1600?

No superscoring for the Presidential Scholars program. The way they handle ACT/SAT is this: first convert SAT to ACT sum, then rank everyone by actual or calculated ACT sum. I know that 1590 CR + M is converted to ACT 140. However, I believe that 1600 CR + M is treated as equivalent in effect to ACT 144.

Nevermind haha, I thought he made some typo and was asking whether a 139/36 was enough. (I had no clue you add up subscores)

And what’s even funnier, I also have a 139. No clue whether that’s enough though.

For what it’s worth, I had a 2360 in Missouri (800/780/780) and I got it.

What is the young arts program that silverturtle spoke of?

I don’t find that hard to believe. There are several states that I can think of which probably don’t have enough 1600s and 1590s to fill the nominations.

she :). And also, then I’m guessing a 2370 is better than a 35 (139)?

Will an ACT 36 still qualify if it’s a 35/36/35/36 breakdown?

Does anyone know where I can find the ACT cutoffs?

It doesn’t really help on college applications because it comes too late in the year. It also doesn’t provide money (other than a trip to DC). Those facts, plus all the essays you have to write, discourage some qualifiers from applying. It’s worth doing, though.

When do the letters for these get sent out?
