Presidential Scholars Program

I am not expecting to be invited to be a Presidential Scholar, but I was just curious - it says on the website that letters will be mailed to “PSP finalists” between Dec 18th and 20th, and they will be invited to come to BC for a weekend in Feb for interviews. It says the 15 P Scholars are selected from the finalists and notified in March. Does anyone know how many “finalists” are selected to do interviews and such?

Oh, and feel free to use this thread for any and all questions/info about PSP. Also, if you are selected as a finalist, please let us know and post your stats here! Good luck to all!

They said the top 2% of their acceptees, and they accept about 7200 students for 2250 spots. 2% of 7200 is 144, but that seems like a lot of finalists. I would guess around 50 or something, but I have no idea.

As I understand it, only those who apply EA will be considered for the Presidential scholarship, so the pool is smaller than 7200. I don't know how many EA apps are usually received. I imagine that many applicants submit EA because they're hoping to be considered for the program.

Did anyone get anything in the mail today for presidential?

I haven't gotten anything... I've been watching, although I don't really even know what kind of chances I have of being nominated.

Yeah, I have no idea what kind of credentials you need to be nominated for that type of thing. I bet they pick people out of the applicants they chose for the honors program.

My daughter has been hoping that just maybe she might be nominated (not expecting, just hoping, since the Presidential is the only merit aid available at BC). No letter here as yet - I hope those fortunate enough to be nominated will post when their letters arrive.

A girl who graduated from our high school in '97 pr '98 received a Presidential with amazing stats: 1600 SAT/highest GPA of a class of 325 or so. I'm certain of the stats because I remember a local newspaper article published about her. According to my oldest daughter's GC, who is notorious for making stuff up because it sounds good, the student turned down Harvard for BC because of the scholarship. She apparently had an amazing 4 years with terrific opportunities, went abroad several times, internships in her field, etc.

frazzled1,
My daughter is currently a freshman at BC in the Presidential Scholar's program. And after much indecision and angst last April, she chose to go to BC over MIT, Brown's PLME program (their 8 year medical program) and UPENN Honors specifically because of the scholarship and the perks that go with being a Presidential scholar, like the all-expenses paid trip to France for a month and the summer internship anyplace in the world.

And I am happy to report that she is extremely happy at BC, and feels that she made the right choice. The program is everything she expected it to be and more. And she absolutely loves the Honors program -- only 13 students in the class discussing the Great Books.

She received her Presidential scholar's invitation for the 5 day stay at BC in February a few days before Christmas last year.

Good luck to all you future Eagles.
