What scores do you actually need to make the cut? I have a 35 and am wondering if that will do it for me in Michigan. I know they take the highest but has anyone here made it with a 35 or know of someone that has been considered for it with a 35.

Bumping this up a lot, but what about South Carolina? Is a 34 in the ballpark? I would imagine not, but thought I'd ask anyway haha.
No clue what kind of scores are in the state

Haha nice to see an old post come back to life. I've since learned that many states are around 141 (sum) for the cutoff. Too bad I'm 140. Anywho, hope that helps.

act scores?

Yep bigred..act scores. But the big numbers come from the sum of the 4 sections.

My pleasure to bring your thread back :) Well, mine's 135..so I guess I won't qualify either. I guess it's not a huge deal anyway. I mean it's not money or anything. Still, it would have been nice!

qualified in texas?

Anybody got any news yet?

Bballdude,
How did you find out the numbere to be 141? Is it posted somewhere?

Also, males and females may have different ACT cut offs.

what about a 2370 in ohio? for the SAT

PWA..
Only V&M are important. convert them to ACT scale

Based on 2007 candidates list, OH had 47 candidates.
The number of kids with ACT (composite) scores of 35 and 36 were 169. Only 17 kids had perfect 36.

This year it could be different depends on how the pears have performed.

Here are the websites

Are you guys sure V&M are only important? I have a 1600 M+V so I'd have to qualify but will 770 in writing hurt since I'm in NJ (one of the most competitive states)?

FredFred, you're in luck. From the Presidential Scholars FAQ:

"Will the ACT Assessment's new writing component or the College Board's changes to the SAT test affect my eligibility for the Presidential Scholars Program?

No. The writing component was first offered as an optional part of the ACT Assessment with the February 2005 test. The new SAT test includes a required writing component, and a "Critical Reading" section that equates to and replaces what was formerly known as the "Verbal" section. The new SAT was administered for the first time in March of 2005. Since the writing component is not a required part of both assessments, however, that score will not be used to determine eligibility for the Presidential Scholars Program. We will continue to develop our list of eligible candidates using the same scores (Math and Verbal/Critical Reading for the SAT, and English, Math, Reading and Science for the ACT) that we have used in the past."

And here's more on the selection process. I read this to say they do not superscore, but just take the highest single sitting. Am I reading that correctly?

"The U.S. Department of Education then looks at test records for the top 30 males and top 30 females in each of the states/jurisdictions. For each examinee, the SAT score is converted to the ACT Sum of Scores, according to a concordance table. Each individual examinee's highest test score (in a single test administration ) is identified, and duplicates and/or lower scores are dropped.

The combined file of scores from the top male examinees and top female examinees are then ranked from high to low in each state. The scores associated with the top 20 male examinees and top 20 female examinees are used to identify the candidates in each state. When ties occur in the cut off score, more than 20 persons of that gender are selected in that state."

when are candidates contacted?

any time soon (first two weeks of January)

haha i wonder what's on the app! Hopefully not too many essays...

I know one of the kids from michigan...Nicolas Sapiano and he had a 140...

wel... 55 candidates from MI...17 36's and 145 35's....
To the OP: if results are consistent then it appears as though you will receive an invitation with a 140.

Are you serious red remote???? Nicolas was a candidate last year with a 140? If that is true this year, I will be soooo happy.

@Ijmom. I was talking to a parent who said (based on the scores of her daughter and friends) that the cutoff was 141 last year.

These are last year, right?
